Demon

Item: Demon
Manufacturer: Performance Variable   (836 Hits)
Purpose: Main
Shape Elliptical
Cells
Fabric:

Description:
The DEMON was developed utilizing a completely new computer program, the first to project the profile of an open, air-filled canopy, allowing the individual cells and sections to be exactly calculated. The result is an open canopy absolutely smooth and free of any folds or creases – clearly more efficient and effective – and therefore stronger performing.

Demon 70 and Demon 80
Rated by: roq (more about me) on 2004-05-22 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:794

Pros: lift, openings, concept
Cons: for experts only

Demon 70 I tested the Demon 70 wing load 2,52 and my impressions is follow: Openings aligned, fast and soft like my Demon 80 The differences for my Demon 80 with wing load to 2,2 is only more speed in all situations. The canopy is very balanced and show that was made for high wing loads without doubts, and, even to 2,52 the canopy answers very well even in bottom end flare to zero winds. For swoop approaches I think the best option for this canopy is 270 turn to up 500 feet high For packing the best option is standard propack, with center open the cell, 4 out nose cells roll 1/2 turn for inside (not inside the center cell), quartered slider with lip close the center cell, center well the nose, only 2 turns in tail. Thus, you have sure that the canopy open and inflate of the inside for outside. In summary: The Demon continues in my opinion to be the best conventional wing ultra HP built even today! Also continues to have the best price. Demon 80 test: Great and beautiful manufacture work! The canopy shows that was built with the objective of eliminating to the maximum the parasite drags that result of abnormal protuberances and saliencys in any airfoil. Thus, all the panels, top skin, bottom skin ribs and loops of connection of the lines is sewn inside of the canopy. Each cell also has two panels in the bottom skin and top skin (like the cobalt just has in the top skin) The outside half cell is completely closed in the nose. The air enters for the cross-ports The nose of 3 and 6 load cel are closed in triangle. After observing this canopy I was right that is the ram-air canopy more developed that I saw even today. And that I was soon submissive to this canopy and desirous of testing. Container Racer Elite 22" Pilot Chute Load for 2.15 Jumps with null wind and moderate wind, opennings in terminal and sub-terminal speed Opennings: Very good, aligned, progressive and soft in terminal and sub terminal speed Very sensitive to harness inputs In flight: Very sensitive canopy, steep Glide Ratio. It is in fact diabolical animal when go down in full flight but can make a flat Glide Ratio if you use the brakes or more with rear risers Aggressive and oversteer in turns Pressure of front risers is moderate Negative and long recovery arch Good Swoop and flare very very long with big power lift e final same with no wind In summary: I think that this canopy is in the continuation and evolution of the modern canopys like the cobalt and crossfire but has more trim angle and a cleaner construction with innovations like the closed end cells and triangles in nose than gives a better aerodynamic use. I think that even without being well cross braced this canopy, with top pilot, can compete directly with the VE, Xaos and VX in the swoop competitions. But is the canopy for experts only because is very fast and sensitive. A.J.Roq
