Digitude Altimeter - Pro

Item: Digitude Altimeter - Pro
Manufacturer: Altitude Concepts   (679 Hits)

Description:
The Digitude Pro model has all the same features as the standard model, except that the display format is 0 - 20,000ft in 10 ft increments. The 10ft digit is 1/2 the size of the other digits, so it is easily ignored in freefall. Under canopy however, its possible to check your altitude accurately all the way to the ground.

Digitude, a good digital altimeter
Rated by: 377 (more about me) on 2005-12-19 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1451

Pros: Accurate and reliable, good value
Cons: 10 ft readout not all that useful

I have jumped a pro and a standard model. I don't see much usefulness in the 10 ft readout increment in the pro compared to 100 ft in the standard model. Both are fine altimeters, simple, easy to use, very readable even in bright sunlight. The mfr really supports the products and offers reasonably priced upgrades. Battery life is excellent if you shut it off btwn jumps. Don't rely on the LCD batery strength indicator. When you see even a tiny drop in battery strength indication, relace the AA cell now. If you are on a tight budget buy the standard model. Canopy swoopers might find the 10 ft readout in the pro model useful, but thats just a guess. I land like a Boeing 747 so I wouldnt know. Even in the day of the Neptune and other fancy expensive digital altimeters the Digitude is still a good buy. They seem to take a beating and keep on working much better than their complex and more fragile competitors.

It rocks!
Rated by: nerdgirl (more about me) on 2005-06-09 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1044

Pros: light, stays put
Cons: none

Six years ago, when I started skydiving, I was looking for a wrist altimeter. All of the others that I tried would flip up just enough to make it hard to see it in freefall. Probably not an issue for guys (& some other girls) with bigger hands. Light works great during night jumps. Also work well for hiking/climbing. Took mine all the way to Everest Base Camp.

The best tool to help you fly your canopy safely!
Rated by: skydoggie (more about me) on 2004-08-16 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1045

Pros: Shows altitude in increments of 10 feet when under canopy.
Cons: I haven't found any yet.

Because the pro shows altitude in increments of 10 feet when under canopy, it's an excellent tool for learning to swoop and canopy control in general. You can practice your turns up high and know how much altitude you lost accurate to ten feet. There are too many fatal accidents related to canopy control. All jumpers should know the flight/control characteristics of their canopy and the digitude pro is a tool that they shouldn't do without while they're learning the flight characteristics of a new canopy.
