Luigi Cani put on a canopy skills course this weekend and it was awesome. We focused on the basics, but Luigi was very flexible with the wide range of experience of the attendees. We had participants from 34 jumps to 1300. Luigi has spent a lot of time with his canopy piloting and knows how to share that knowledge; probably the best money I have ever spent in skydiving so far. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in taking a canopy course. We even got to see him fly and land the JVX 37' - WOW!
I am flying a Katana at 1.6 and have had average landings. With Luig's help I had great landings all weekend.
Luigi, you are an awesome person and I appreciate you working with us this last weekend. Keep it safe; Blue Skies!
I will second that!! It was amazing!!! I can't believe how much I learned, I was the “baby” jumper in the class with the 34 jumps and wing loading at .78. Going in I was a bit afraid that it would be above my head and skill level. That was definitely not the case! Luigi is a very natural teacher and was able to keep us interested in the classroom work even when it was too gusty to jump. (Almost impossible with a bunch of the typical ADD skydivers) When the winds cooperated, he videoed all of our landings and then as a group we would debrief and he would give us our own individual pointers and goals for the next jump. I learned almost as much listening to other’s as my own. I would definitely recommend his class to everyone.
Ditto! My landings and accuracy improved 100% during the course. And to watch him fly that tiny postage stamp of a canopy was incredible. Definitely a course worth taking if you ever get the opportunity.
I caught his course at Skydive Skyranch in Siloam Springs, Ar. Everyone that attended was impressed and came away better, safer canopy pilots. The 37 demo was amazing! Steve Babin
I'll apologize, but the cartoon bubble in my head was a little guy handing out 80 pound lead vests to a class of CrW dogs and talking about 'superloading'
7 yrs after I took a canopy course from Luigi and Jim Slaton, I can say beyond doubt, that it was the best money I ever spent. For a fact, the course saved me a couple times. 20 jumps after the course, I had a brake line hang and landed on rear risers (stood it up). I did it again later. EVERY landing since (900) has been a stand-up picture perfect landing. I never swooped, I did mild carving riser turns or just front risers on a straight in. Energy+conservative flight = options options = no bone screws or worse.
I did the course last weekend and can only echo everyone else's comments - fantastic and well worth the money.
Experience in our group rnaged from 70 jumps to 5,000 jumps with WLs from 0.9 to 1.9. Luigi managed to deal with this range with no trouble and everyone on the course improved more than they thought possible.
