Members of Dallas Rogue and SkyVenture New Hampshire will be hosting our first vertical formation skydiving tunnel competition on Sunday December 6, 2009. Our goal is to have a fun meet and give freeflyers something to hold them over until the snow melts – this meet will also be a great opportunity for folks interested in forming teams for next year to meet potential teammates and for people considering competing to learn what it's all about. There will not be any cash purses, but prizes will include tunnel time and donated prizes from manufacturers. There will also be a 4-way FS meet on Sautrday December 5th. More details about that meet can be found here: http://www.dropzone.com/...;;page=unread#unread
Registration prices this year (for the Sunday VFS events) will be $75 per competitor regardless of her/his competition class. Price includes a pizza lunch, bottled water, a DVD of your team’s flights, your meet flights and warm up time, and if you register before the November 20 deadline, a free t-shirt for each team member.
The competition will include three classes: Intermediate, Advanced and Pro. All classes will complete 6 competition rounds with rounds 1 and 2 being drawn from the belly/back dive pool. Everyone will have to fly on their belly and back for two rounds! For Intermediate, rounds 3-6 will be drawn from the head-up dive pool excluding grip front flip grip (HU-12). The Intermediate class will have 3-4 points drawn per round. Advanced will have rounds 3-6 drawn from the vertical dive pool excluding points marked as PRO. These points can have both people head-up or one person head-up and one person head-down. Only one person will ever have to be head-down for Advanced. The Advanced class will have 4-5 points drawn per round. Pro will have rounds 3-6 drawn from the entire vertical dive pool - both people head-up, one head-up on head-down, both people head-down. The Pro class will have 4-5 points drawn per round.
The registration fee will include the 2, 1 minute warm-up flights. These flights should be used to determine your wind speeds - one speed for belly/back points, one speed for vertical points. You can have a different wind speed for every round if you want, but you'll want a minumum of two wind speeds.
Everyone entering the VFS competition must be checked off with the IBA (http://www.tunnelflight.com) at the appropriate level. If you are not checked off, please due so before the meet or during the practice rounds otherwise you will not be elibile.
Each round has 35 seconds of working time. You will be given 60 seconds to have your wind speed set, enter the tunnel, complete your 35 seconds of working time and exit the chamber. Working time for Intermediate will begin from within the tunnel when both of either competitor's feet leave the net. You will be allowed to walk into the tunnel and set up on the net if you want to launch a formation. Advanced and Pro teams must do door entrances. Working time will begin when both of either competitor's feet leave the floor of the antechamber. You will be allowed to have one foot in the wind and be leaning into the chamber as long as one foot is in the antechamber.
To register for the meet, all you need to do is email Ari at NHTunnelMeetVFS"at"gmail"dot"com with the team name, the competition class you will be competing in, the full names of both team members, each team member's email address, and each team member's t-shirt size. All payments will be made on site at SkyVenture New Hampshire on the day of the meet. Remember, teams that register before November 20 get free t-shirts. If you want to compete but don't have a teammate, go to the following google spread sheet:
This spreadsheet was made for the 4-way FS meet, but we can still use it for VFS. Under "Preferred Class", make sure you write "VFS" and the class. Please be careful not to change or delete any fields besides your own as the changes will get saved automatically. REGISTRATION IS ALREADY FILLING QUICKLY - PLEASE CONTACT ME SOON TO RESERVE YOUR TEAM'S SLOT!
Registered teams will be able to purchase discounted training time from Friday November 27th through Friday December 4th at a rate of $360 per half hour or $660 for hour blocks. If you are flying practice time with your team, it would be good to have the tunnel driver note your airspeed and communicate it to me.
Lastly, discounted rates at the Radisson hotel are available for registered teams. Price is just $52 plus tax per night. To book a room you should contact SkyVenture New Hampshire at (888)SKY-VENTURE and leave a message for Laurie Greer with your check in date, your check out date, how many beds (double or king), your name and phone number, and your credit card number. She’ll book the room and call you back with a confirmation number. The Radisson has a pool, sauna, hot-tub, health club, free internet in the room / wifi in the lobby, full restaurant, bar and more.
We look forward to your participation! Please feel free to forward this on to folks (and DZ list serves) and contact me by email if you have any questions about the event. - NHTunnelMeetVFS"at"gmail"dot"com
The discounted tunnel time rates are November 30th - December 4th, they do not start November 27th.
I've had several people express concern about block HD-14 - Grip Front Flip Grip. There are people who want to compete head down, but are backloopers and don't do head down front flips. We're going to change that block so you can do either a front flip or a back flip.
There are discounted registration fees for people who want to do multiple events:
For VFS competiors: $75 for the first VFS event $60 for additional freefly class
For FS competitors: $60 reg for the freefly (no extra shirt) if they want to participate in a VFS event, too $40 if they want to do multiple FS events in one day (Rookie and Int. or Int and Open)
Only one t-shirt per competitor if they register for both disciplines
I've also added a link to a dive generator at http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ so you can generate sample draws to practice. It will generate dives for FS and VFS.
Registration is picking up and there are only a few days left before the November 20th free t-shirt deadline.
Just a reminding that today is the last day to register and get a free t-shirt. If you are thinking of registering, please let me know and I'll hold a spot for your team.
