Choosing nationals Can't Post

I'm still amazed that the USPA continues to award the Nationals bid to DZs that refuse to host every event!

What is to stop a DZ from putting a bid together to only host VRW or maybe only 8-way RW or just CF?

I can understand a DZ not wanting to commit to building an appropriate canopy piloting facilities; however, I believe that should exclude that DZ from hosting any of the Nationals events!

Some state that its too expensive to build a proper pond when many times the cost of a proper swoop pond is spent on other aspects of Nationals or is required in facilities for nationals?

Those who are running, do you agree or disagree and why?

Re: [AggieDave] Choosing nationals [In reply to] Can't Post

I honestly cannot answer that question because my thoughts on Nationals are so different than the "norm".

For some reason, USPA's Competition committee has decided over time to prefer to have as many events in Nationals at one dropzone as possible. I have asked a few competitors why they might prefer this, and they said it was because they could meet a lot of competitors in other disciplines. OK, but then I have heard that a lot of competitors attend the Nationals for a limited time, only when they are practicing or competing in their discipline(s).

So what if a smaller number of disciplines were held at more dropzones? Maybe part of Nationals could be held at your dropzone, because the smaller size would be more manageable for a smaller dropzone.

Like I said, I can't answer that question.

I can see the advantage to both methods. However, if either method is going to be used, stick with it!

I've only competed at 3 Nationals, but at none of them did many competitors hang around to meet those from other disciplines (skipping the banquet, for example), so I reckon that reason is fairly bogus.

I remember the Chicago nationals in 02, I was a Vidiot for a CReW team, and we, because pretty much everyone has left by this point, rounded up as many CReWdogs as possible and went and showed respect to the Artistic Events ceremony. A few of these guys, in return, hung around until the CReW ceremony was over a few days later. It was neat to see Dogs hoopen and hollerin for freefliers and skysurfers and visa versa.
