M.O.A.B.Posted Sun Aug 28 2005Are you ready?! Once again, Skydive Moab is teaming up with Skydive Arizona to host the 2nd Annual "Mother of All Boogies"! Moab, Utah, renowned for its awesome landscapes and countless, beautiful and legal BASE jumping sites, is opening its doors to skydivers for another memorable boogie, with all the ingredients for fun in all disciplines. Skydive Moab is a small Cessna drop zone, located 15 miles north of the town of Moab, Utah. Owned and operated by Clint MacBeth and Shelley White, the facility generally caters to the heavy tourist traffic coming through the area, with tandem jumping. However, for one long weekend in the early fall, Skydive Moab will be all about the experienced jumper! "Our big plan is to really have the M.O.A.B, be the best boogie in the country and I think we are on the right track," says Clint. The very first M.O.A.B. last year, welcomed over 140 skydivers who came to check out these amazing rock formations, arches, and the many canyons that Moab has to offer. This year the boogie is expecting more than 250 participants for the 4-day event. The M.O.A.B. will have organizing for all disciplines; Craig Girard, from Arizona Airspeed, along with an AZTC Freefly member from Skydive Arizona, will be organizing Big and Small RW, VRW, Hybrid and tracking dives! (Coach dives may be available as well). Amy Chmelecki was planning to organize for free flying and hybrid dives, as well as offering one on one coaching, however, a recent injury may keep her at home recuperating…only time will tell. We wish her a speedy recovery! There will be Birdman organizing all weekend long with Jay Epstein (Adrenaline Exploits), and Ash White (Skydive Arizona). Both Phoenix-Fly and Birdman demo suits will be available. In addition to great vibes and fun skydives, the MOAB plans to offer participants some decidedly unique experiences. For experienced canopy pilots, a few exclusive swoop courses will be set up outside the general landing area. There are 100' hills just north of the airport that will be incorporated into a swoop coarse with a 45 degree drop. Also, there is a natural swoop park carved into the land right on the airport premises. Picture a 10' deep snaking canyon, just begging to be flown through. This is going to be way different than anything else you've ever swooped! Guaranteed! Limited jumping may again be offered into The Red Cliffs Lodge. Twelve hundred foot cliffs surround this fabulous landing site and, if that's not cool enough, the exit is over top of the Colorado River, which flows alongside the lodge. The magnificent scenery will leave you breathless! Also, ATV rentals from www.HighPointHummer.com will be available right at the airport. So when your done jumping, or just need to go crazy on a 4 wheeler for an hour or two, they'll be there to suit your speed needs on the ground floor. There will also be opportunities for experienced BASE jumpers attending the boogie to try some new exit points and maybe some old favorites, as well. For the majority of jumpers, who jump strictly from planes, the Skyvan and King Air will keep you plenty busy! This years M.O.A.B will be September 29- October 2.
