Were you here? Are you still on a high? Then you know what we're talking about when we say Mother Of All Boogies!!!. Or were you one of the unfortunate souls that just couldn't find your way?!! Then I guess it would be the Missed Opportunity At Boogie. (sorry, just couldn't resist that one).

Over the past few months, you've probably heard some buzz about a small dz in Moab, Utah, which caters mostly to tandem jumpers and the occasional up-jumper passing through. I'm going to go out on a limb (cliff?) and bet that the little buzz has turned into one great big roar! It certainly has our ears ringing.

Skydive Moab, along with Skydive Arizona, really did put on the (dare I say it again), Mother Of All Boogies this past week-end at the Moab Airport. The boogie's success far exceeded our expectations and also the expectations of all who attended! The over-all consensus, from the experienced jumpers, newbies, students, tandems, and even from the curious public, was that it was an awesome, unforgettable 3 days! The weather was even on our side. With glorious blue skies, comforting warm sun, and evening jewels lighting up the skies, there was really no words to do justice to the magnificent, awe-inspiring scenery that surrounded all of us this weekend. The Moab Airport, with its open desert surroundings, is almost surreal for parachuting.

  • We had 140 jumpers come out to the Boogie. About 70 of them were pre-registered!
  • We sold over 1050 tickets and there was a total of 52 loads flown!
  • No injuries to report, only 3 cutaways and 1 destroyed tent! Not bad!
Skydive Arizona was also pleased with the overwhelming turn out, sending along both the A100 King Air and Super Otter. This alone added some of the finishing touches and many, many happy loads! Speaking of golden touches, the sun set load into the Red Cliffs Ranch, was by far the highlight of the boogie. Many thanks to Colin Fryer and his staff at the Ranch for helping to ensure a memorable event! Next year everyone, with a 'B' license, will be jumping into a special place.

Everyone was in the midst of a high-energy vibe that could not be escaped. This energy was projected from the first excited arrival to the last tearful departure. But what can you do? Do it again next year!!! How could we not? We had to regretfully say "not yet" to the many happy campers who were looking for the 2005 pre-registration forms!

How can we ever express our thanks and gratitude to all who made this MOAB Boogie such a wonderful success. We can invite you all to come back! And to those poor unfortunates who missed out, we say kindly, LOL. We know you'll be here next year!

A very special thank you is extended to Bryan Burke with Skydive Arizona, event co-ordinator. His expertise was vital for having everything run smoothly.

Many thanks to Jay Epstein, TJ Landgren and Redeye for organizing this weekend! Dan Oden (Tweeker), rocks! The pilots from Skydive AZ were fantastic! Perfect spots all weekend long!

Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to all of our Sponsors for their support! Performance Designs, Aerodyne Research, Go Fast Sports, Mirage Systems, Jump Shack, Sunrise Rigging International, Salmon Air, Alt-2, Pier Ltd, Aerostore Corp. and Dive Balm.

Lots and lots of warm bear hugs to all staff, volunteers, participants, friends and family.

Until next year….See you then!
