SSI PRO TOUR Circuit Gears Up for 2000 and BeyondPosted Sun Apr 09 2000SSI OPEN - ROAD TO THE X GAMES SETThe 2000 SSI Open is being held as a "virtual competition" and open audition from which at least seven Skysurfing teams will be selected based on tapes submitted by May 31, 2000. Teams selected will be invited to take part in the sixth annual SSI Skysurfing competition within the 2000 ESPN X Games, where all ten places will share in a record cash purse. Entry is open to any person meeting the SSI Safety and Proficiency Requirements.
X GAMES SKYSURF PURSE AT LEAST $66,000ESPN has yet to finalize the amount but has confirmed a cash purse of at least $66,600 for the SSI Skysurfing competition within the 2000 X Games. This amount would tie the all time record payday in the history of skydiving set by the SSI Skysurfing event at the 99 X Games. The SSI Skysurfing competition within the 2000 X Games is set for August 9-14 at a new venue soon to be confirmed. Television coverage is being tape delayed to be included as part of the X Games broadcast week set for Aug.19-26.
FREEFLYING IN 2001 X GAMES ???Due in part to the high cost of everything in the Bay Area, no new sports have been admitted to the 2000 X Games and two disciplines have been dropped. However, after a four year run on the West Coast, the X Games will definitely be moving East for at least the next two years. ESPN is considering the possibility of allowing viewers to vote on which new sports they would like to see in the 2001 X Games. Freeflying is STILL high on the list of sports under consideration.
NEW ENGLAND ENDORSED XPERIENCEThe second annual SSI Endorsed Xperience in Maine has been set for the weekend of Aug 26 -27 at Skydive New England in Lebanon, Maine. Formerly known as Skydive Lebanon, the DZ hosted their first SSI pro style Endorsed Xperience last year with a casual and fun affair. Organizers are offering Pro and Amateur categories in Freeflying and Skysurfing. The event is open to anyone meeting the SSI Safety and Proficiency guidelines.
