Does canopy COLOR influence/increase pack volume? Can't Post

1.) Does canopy COLOR has an influence on canopy pack volume?

2.) Are all fabrics white when they are first manufactured (their generic color), and then dyed?

3.) Do different colors (blue, red, orange, etc.) influence pack volume to different degrees?

Not by any noticable amount.

AFAIK the THREAD that material is woven from is dyed prior to the weaving of the fabric.

See #1.

What is the original (generic) thread color then? Smile

Most fiber colors prior to dyeing are off white.

Natural, which is more commonly called white by skydivers.

1.) Does canopy COLOR has an influence on canopy pack volume?

Absolutely, sometimes by as much as 10% or more.

2.) Are all fabrics white when they are first manufactured (their generic color), and then dyed?

No, the color is referred to as "Natural"

3.) Do different colors (blue, red, orange, etc.) influence pack volume to different degrees?

Yes, the darker colors tend to increase pack volume more.

Makes me think of what I heard about stripping the paint off of a 182. Takes off about 200lbs doesn't it? Makes sense that a canopy that was not dyed would pack up smaller than one that was.

I do remember that the rigger I started my training with way back when told me he noticed white canopies pack up a little smaller than dyed ones.
