can I do tandem skydiving after a year's Lasek/Lasik eye surgery? Help.
Can't Post
Hi there,
I am a 22-year-old girl who is gonna go to Interlaken for a tandem skydiving (my first time to do extreme sport ever in my life) up the Eiger Mountain there. I am really excited.
However I just realized that I had a Lasik/Lasek (can not remember clearly) a year ago, and the last time I went to the doctor for the review was in June 2012, and the doctor told me my eyes recovered very well, especially my cornea, he said it was still quite thick (he even joked that I could have one more Lasik if I needed...).
But so far, I haven't been to him for half a year, and in the beginning of this February, it will be one year, so please help me, can I do skydiving now? What should I pay attention to?
I really need your help, so please everyone, don't make fun of me, thank you. Just tell me.

Disclaimer: I'm no eye doctor Most skydivers I know who have had lasik/lasek are back to skydiving within a couple months. So after a year, skydiving is probably fine. Make sure your goggles are tight enough that they stay on your head and don't let in too much airflow, pretend like you have contact lenses

thanks very much for your help! I was too nervous about my eyes. I was really not sure about the 'retina', but my doc told me I can feel free to do it, yet just remember to have a smooth landing...
Could you tell me how the impact to the eyes feel in the sky? Will it hurt? Or some kind of feelings?

hello, i had lasik done about 5 years ago. I am s skydiving instructor. My Doc said I could go back to work after 5-7 days...I waited 10 days just to be safe and I have don about 3-4t thousand jumps after the surgery since then..no problems whatsoever....also you will be using goggles so you shouldn't worry.

We can only tell you of our collective experiences. You should NOT go to a skydiving group to find medical answers. Anything you get here will be anecdotal, at best. Ask your doctors about this.

Hi there,
I recently had mine done through Lasik MD. On their recommended activity schedule, it says after one month with eye protection. I asked the optometrist who did my exam after the sugery, and she said they recommend to wait 3 months. I'm glad I did it in December .

I am by no means a doctor.
I would return to the doctor who preformed the surgery and ask his opinion,ESPECIALLY when it comes to my eyes.

^^^ THIS...with one caveat... Hopefully your doctor is familiar with skydiving and could give you intelligent advice about the real effects it could have on your eyes.
I'd be reluctant to go with the advice of skydivers saying, "You'll be just fine." It's not their eyes that are being addressed.

Some docs won't ever clear you to go skydiving because they think it's nuts, and they're afraid of being held liable if you get hurt after they clear you to do it. So they just won't. So sometimes you have to substitute another activity. So, to an ortho: "When can I go back to, uh, basketball and running in rugged terrain?" To an eye doc: "When can I, uh, ride my brother's motorcycle with goggles?" Etc.

I am to doctor............ however, I had Lasik on both of my eyes by the Navy Hospital at Jacksonville FL in 2009. The naval flight surgeon advised me to sit out from skydiving for three months and then I would be fine. I have logged more than 500 jumps since that time with no issues. I just make sure my goggles are on tight.
