Hello all, I am from NY, Long Island specifically, 23 year old Advanced EMT... Anyway, Jumped my first tandem summer 2011, completed 2 more tandems, took my AFP classroom, and completed 2 AFP solo jumps all in the summer of 2011. Life got busy, bills got bigger, blah blah blah. Havent fumped since. I have vowed to get back to jumping summer 2013. The drop zone by me (Sky Dive Long Island) just closed for the season. I was just curious as to what the requirements are to continue pursuing my A license. Being away from the sport for 2 years I am sure i need to refresh on the fundamentals. Is there a refresher AFP classroom? or would i have to take all 6 hours over again? do i have to redo my other jumps? i have them logged in a dive book.

I don't recall if you'd need to do the ground school again, but you'd probably have to repeat the jumps. Every DZ seems to handle that a little differently, so show 'em your log book and talk to them about it.
More importantly, do you think you could jump safely if you didn't repeat the ground school? It's been a couple of years, do you think you remember enough about it?
Even if you have to repeat the levels, you still have that experience from last time. It's not like you're starting from nothing. A couple of jumps to get back into the groove isn't that bad. The important thing is to pursue the sport safely.

Welcome to the forums! The best thing for you to do is to talk to your instructors about where you need to start again. I'm glad you found the website to keep you busy until next year. Go to a tunnel if you have one nearby to practice your form.

Oh, I actually read that SIM. I just don't recall it off the top of my head.
I didn't pay the currency requirements much mind, it was some amount of time which I couldn't imagine spending without having to do kind of a lot of skydives. If I tried to spend however long that was not skydiving, I'd probably end up gnawing my own arm off.

I've done recurrency training a number of times over the years. In 2009, I had 6 logged jumps (I had other jumps from years ago in Canada but no logbook and those were a LONG time ago). These included 1 tandem, passed AFF-1 twice, had to redo AFF-2 three times.
I had to do the whole FJC again in 2009 but I believe they charged me only for a regular recurrency jump+a 2 instructor AFF jump--which was slightly cheaper than the regular FJC price.
Since your experience level and time away from the sport is similar to mine in 2009, I'd expect you would probably need to do the full FJC again.
OTOH in 2012 I had 61 logged jumps and only had a little bit remaining to do to get my 'A'. This time the recurrency consisted of a thorough review of emergency procedures, gear checks, and flying the pattern--but a much more perfunctory discussion of other subjects. Finally officially got my 'A' shortly thereafter--hopefully I'll stay current this time.
