B-17 & other cool jump ships Can't Post

Had the opportunity to make a jump from a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress recently and it definitely ranks up there with my top 5 all time memorable jump ships. The others? The Perris DC-9, Casas, Skyvans and several types of helicopters.

What are some of yours?

Re: [pilotpilot] B-17 & other cool jump ships [In reply to] Can't Post

I've jumped many different types of aircraft, from C-172, C-182, Caravan, Otter, Skyvan, Casa, Beech 18, hot air baloon, and helicopters.

All memorable in their own right, but perhaps the most obscure aircraft I've jumped from was an Antonov AN2 several years ago. A large Biplane of soviet/russian design. Took 13 jumpers to an altitude of 10500' in approximately 40 minutes. But jump run was at an airspeed of between 30 - 35 mph. I remember standing in the door staring at the spot forever. We had a headwind at altitude of 25-30 mph. Lots of fun for 10 way speed stars.

What are some of yours?

Same ones you have (only one chopper, though) plus a vintage Boeing Steerman bi-plane Smile

Whole list would be:

C-182
C-185
C-205
Caravan
Otter
Skyvan
King Air
Casa
Pilatus Porter
Astar 350 Helicopter
Boeing DC-9
B-17 Flying Fortress
Boeing Steerman bi-plane

Still want to add a hot air balloon to that list...

The coolest that stand out are the Connie, bi-plane, and the Huey in Quincy.

Oh, and the AN-72 (even more fun than the C-130, tho the jumps from the Herc were cool when we were landing at the International Airport in Borneo Cool)

Envy :)

I doubt the 727 or Constellation will ever be available to jump again,
and the C-130 only happens for the huge-ways Smile

Replying to all of the above...

I only saw a B-25 listed for two folks. I've had two B-25 jumps out of two different planes.

One of them was the Silver Lady and the other was the Blue Dog.

Anyone ever launch a 2way out of the bombay of a B-25 besides me?Wink

Another cool jump was from a Sikorsky Sky Crane. I got 3 jumps out of the boxcar at 10K jumping into the 82nd club in the early 80s.Cool

Re: [pilotpilot] B-17 & other cool jump ships [In reply to] Can't Post

As I mentioned in a precedent post, I have jumped so far from 45 different airships. Here they are :

Aerospatiale A-Star H, Antonov An-2, Arava, Beechcraft 18, Beechcraft 99, Beechcraft King Air, Beechcraft Bonanza, Beechcraft Queen Air, Bell 206 H, Bell 230 H, Bell 412 H, Boeing 727 J, Caribou, Carvair, Casa, Cessna : 170, 172, 180, 182, 185, 205, 206, 207, Cessna 206 on float, Cessna Caravan, DC-3, DC9 J, Enstrom H, Fairchild Porter, Firefly hot air ballon, Helio Stallion, Hercules, Hughes 500 H, Loadstar, Maule Rocket, Norman Brittain Highlander, Norseman, Pac 750 XL, Pilatus Porter, Piper Chieftain, Piper Navajo, Piper Seneca, Skyvan, Tripacer, Twin Otter.

H for helicopter
J for jet

Note 1 : I have missed the chance to jump from a B24, B17, Ford Trimotor, and a glider as well at the World Freefall Convention (WFFC). The jumps from the first two were 350$ and 99$ for the others.

Note 2 : My regrets is to have missed the jump from the Super Constellation and a Goodyear blimp
