Holux M-1000C GPS logger for tracking/wingsuiting Can't Post

http://www.amazon.com/...words=GPS+logger+5hz

Would this device work well for tracking/wingsuiting determining glide ratio and horizontal distance/fall rate?

It is 1hz which means 1 record/second (right?). Would this be sufficient for recording my flight or would I need to find a 5hz logger???

Thanks!

Get a flysight !
If you just want to log and go cheaper, buy a "photoMate 887 lite".
It can log at 5Hz, is small and has a very good reception.
The Holux can also be set to 5Hz, but goes back to 1Hz after power-off.

1Hz is ok to visualize the track flown. For numbers, you want at least 5Hz.

I don't need the other features of flysight necessarily, plus the price tag is prohibitive for me, I can't really see spending that much money on a GPS logger...

I'll check out the photomate closer, thanks!

Honestly if you want to log and analyze a wingsuit jump you should just get a flysight. Not only is it specific to skydiving but the software support and knowledge is superior.

I will rent you one.... :-)

WBT-201 is an old cr@p. Get some MTK II chipset based device, like i-Blue 747+. No more fight for satellite lock.

I use this device for 2 years and it works perfect. As I know it's 1000 hz logger, but I can't imagine any reason why I would need 5000 hz logger instead 1000 hz. Hz would not add you skills and 1000 more than enough for jump detailing ))

The M-1000C uses the MTKII chipset and can log at 5Hz (5 points per second).
When the device is switched on, default settings are loaded. Sadly, the defaults on Holux devices cannot be set faster than 1Hz. But after switching on, it can be set to 5Hz with a MTK command, or by 3rd party software. I used the mobile (java) version of BT747 on my phone to do this before exit. But it's an additional hassle and if you forget, you log at 1Hz only. That's why I recommended the photoMate, which stays at 5Hz once it's set. Same applies for the i-Blue 747+, the photoMates bigger brother, also made by Transystem.

what would I be getting with the 747 that I don't get with the photomate? The photomate looks great, easy to mount on helmet/lightweight/inexpensive.

Looks like they are pumping them out of taiwan?

Do I need to have some external software (on my computer?) to switch the photomate to 5hz. From your post then I understand if I do its done with and I can just turn it on/off and it will remain 5hz.

thanks for the info, I really need some help understanding this stuff Laugh

The 747+ has got a longer lasting battery and bluetooth. There is a newer model (747pro) that also has a movement sensor, beeper and larger memory.

I've got mine from Taiwan through ebay.

I can't remember if it's possible to set the 5Hz with the included software.
The BT747 software is free (open source) and works well. There are versions for PC, Mac, Linux and Java capable mobile devices.

The photomate only has a "soft button" for on/off, the 5Hz mode stays.
It might reset if the battery drains completely...

thanks a lot tunnelfly!

one last question, do you think that resetting the logger photomate to 5hz would be easier for somebody who is not VERY computer savvy....would the extra software be free???

I guess that was two extra questions Angelic

The free software I mentioned above is well documented.

One answer...
