Remember:

  • DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance.

  • Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer".

  • Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa

  • If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check.

  • If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is.

I really appreciate your respond,I am an oceanographer and am currently at sea at the moment, due to my occupation as a marine engineer at this moment i am presently working offshore, sometimes access to regular emails and phone calls are very poor in offshore due to inefficiency of the immarsat service, I located in pacific WA, and i want you to know that am okay with the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres status and also the conditions of the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres and the asking price as well, I am buying the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres as a gift for my Dad as a surprise for him,he wont know anything about the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres until they get delivered to him, i can only pay through PayPal as i don't have access to my bank account on-line as i don't have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my PayPal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through PayPal, kindly get back to me with your PayPal details if you don't have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up at your bank and get it set up,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through so i can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i have a pick up agent that will come around for verifications and to pick the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres after i have made the payments for the Mirage G3 M2, Safire149, PD143, Cypres. So I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the making of the payment.

Read this:http://www.dropzone.com/...;;page=unread#unread

The "I'm on a boat and am buying it as a surprise for my Dad (son, brother, whatever)" is a pretty standard scam line. Pretty odd to be buying a harness/container without actually finding out if it fits, no? Pretty odd to be buying a really high performance rig for someone else, no?

Skim through the other scammer reports and you start to see patterns.
This is a standard one.

In reply to:

My first thoughts were pretty unsure if it was a "scam" just kinda confused on the whole situation. He proposed Paypal which is pretty safe, so I was just thinking as long as the money is in my account, I dont really care where the rig goes. sketchy situation clearly so Im just avoiding it

Re: [Dragpo13] Username: knox11 - Classifieds Buyer Scam [In reply to] Can't Post

IMPORTANT

Everyone should understand that any user listed in these scam forums is a verified scammer, that is to say that if you deal with them you ARE going to end up losing your gear and having no money in the end.

These scammers contact numerous individuals with the same generic e-mail, just changing the name of the gear item.

And while it is true that paypal used to be safe, recently there has been a vast increase in fraud via paypal. They are using stolen credit cards to make the purchase, which payment is then recalled a while after the payment has been made. Leaving you with neither your gear or the money.

We put up a scam report like this after we receive 3 or more reports from various users using the report scam function.

We strongly urge anyone selling a gear item to someone on dropzone.com without any forum posts or profile information to ask the buyer for their USPA number or the contact details of their rigger, and then to follow up to see whether the user is legitimate, some will google for a dropzone name even, so following up with the reference is best.

But the bottom line is, NEVER proceed with a sale with anyone listed in the scams forum.

I received exactly the same e-mail today from a Username: waxzee001 .... the funny thing is, I'm selling a reserve and on my ad it says: "For sale or swap".. on the e-mail he sent to me saying he was buying as a gift to his father, he says: "I'm buying this SWAP to my father" that was enough for me to realise it was a scam... I'm not selling a swap ...LOLLaugh
