Rubber Stamp for Log Book Signature
Can't Post
Hi all, If I have a rubber stamp made with my signature and license number, does it count for a signature in other people's log books? i can't see why not, but just curious...

In the USA:
By statute in every state - signature stamps are valid. You can read more about this concept in a legal encyclopedia such as 80 Corpus Juris Secundum, Signatures, sections 2 through 7.
Even the IRS accepts a signature stamp on a 1040 tax return.
Although someone could (and they do) make a signature stamp to sign a particular document - there are civil and criminal liabilties for doing such - forgery. ------------
My question to you would be; Isnt it easier to use their pen to sign, even initial, a jump log than pull out a stamp pad? ------------
Im NOT an attorney but know first hand that a facsimile and stamped signature is legal valid.

Stamp away.
In the paper world you can stamp, scratch, hand sign, provide a thumbprint, whatever.
In the end a signature is just, "A mark or sign made by an individual on an instrument or document to signify knowledge, approval, acceptance, or obligation."

Not always. The logs in my book at my home DZ has a number of rubber stamp sigs because the two owners have stamps. So, at the end of the day, if I've got a handful of jumps that need sigs, its easy to have them go *stamp* *stamp* *stamp* *stamp* after I pay. Granted, not all, or even most, of my jumps are signed with a stamp, but a good number are.

I have taken a slightly different approach. I have a stamp with my name, license #, and rating. So I can sign a document, and then stamp with those details.
I don't use it for all logbooks that I sign, but if I want to make it more likely that something will be accepted by another dropzone, I will use the stamp with my signature, as it makes it real clear who signed it and what kind of rating I hold.
Examples of when I am likely to use it is when signing a rating proficiency card for a pre-requsite element, or a the logbook of a visiting student (who will take the logbook back to their home DZ to finish their license).

Food for thought:
From the SIM: 2. Jumps for license and rating qualifications must be signed by another licensed skydiver, a pilot, or a USPA National or FAI Judge who witnessed the jump. 3. Jumps to meet skill requirements must be signed by a USPA Instructor, Instructor Examiner, Safety & Training Advisor, or a member of the USPA Board of Directors.
4. Signature Verification: Applications for all licenses must be signed by an appropriate official (as listed in this Section) before the application is forwarded to USPA Headquarters.
a. The completed A license Proficiency Card signed by the certifying USPA Instructor and bearing the official A-license stamp, is proof of a USPA A license.
...and other similar indicators.
No mention on the acceptability of rubber stamps in place of real signatures.

This situation makes total sense to me. A recognized DZO, JM, Pilots and D's would sign/ verify a lot of jumpers.
BUT a C ? Really. Hundreds? Tell your friend with the 'lost book' the start a new book. Be responsible, record forgery IS A CRIME, and deadly dangerous in out sport. You are not covered by the DZ's waivers!
