Tracking distance record Can't Post

Hello,

I am trying to find out the longest tracking distance achieved without a wingsuit (if one has been set) - I have searched on here and not been able to find any info, so thought I'd ask. If it has been discussed on here, please feel free to direct me to the thread and delete this one! Smile Thanks for your help!

I'd be interested in records from any altitude, tracking suit jumps definitely count and yes, A numbers really are 6 digits now! Smile

You must be confusing your membership number or something.

We had a tracking contest at SDSL once, years ago. The TO was 1.5 miles away from the DZ, we bailed at 13.5K. The winner that day was Hook-N-Swoop (Derrick V.) If my memory serves me correctly he tracked 2.5 miles in a RW suit and a full faced helmet. They sent a truck to give him a ride back to the DX. I was embarrased to say the least.

1.26 glide ratio, seems reasonable for a very good tracker with booties.

I can't decide if I want a tracking suit or a prodigy 2, both are similar but the prodigy looks cooler.

Hello,

The best performances with tracking suits within 1000m vertical distance on competition (with same conditions for everyone) in 2011:
http://wingsuitboogie.hu/sites/wingsuitboogie.hu/files/hirfile/TR%20final%20HUNGARY%202011.pdf

Tracking with no suits at all-)):
http://wingsuitboogie.hu/sites/wingsuitboogie.hu/files/hirfile/NTR%20final%20HUNGARY%20-%202011.pdf

Pretty imperessive performance of naked trackers, the best ones would rank middle in tracking suit category...

Come and try it out by yourself in 2012 in Hungary, on the biggest WS and tracking skydiving event worldwide!

2 mile with somewhat baggy freely suit.

I found out that going with shorts and t-shirts are better than a suit that flaps around.

Once you reach certain speed and angle, flapping cloth will only provide drag and does not do anything for lift.

Best non-wingsuit or non-inflating suit will be RW suit with booties. IMO.

I once did 3.11 miles in a tracking contest from 13.5k from Hwy 521 next to the Spaceland DZ to the first house East of Hwy 288 at FM 1462 with a RW bootie suit. Had a wind from the SSE pushing against my right shoulder that kept trying to push me to the NNW. Vertical fall rate according to my protrac was 82Mph.

Re: [gemini] Tracking distance record [In reply to] Can't Post

That is very good indeed, in fact I believe the best trackers in the best tracking suits can only do 1.7 glide ratio, perhaps edging in on 2.0 soon. Honestly, anything above 1.1 in a non tracking suit is pretty much on fire. Although I don't have tons of jumps, I have found that the vertical speed e.g. protrack is a good indication of overall tracking performance. My best tracks have been around 70-80mph (TAS not SAS on protrack), and you can really see your angle when you fall through the cloud deck.

I'm getting a tracking suit soon, so I'll let y'all know how it performs!! Wink

Agreed, I was never able to get that slow or the distance again and I tried very hard over a number of years to duplicate that jump. I really think the wind coming at my shoulder had a lot to do with the results. I could definitely feel the push in the air and had to constantly fight to stay on a straight track.
