CX 115 - problems grabbing frames from videos Can't Post

I've got a CX 115 camera that is set onto it's highest definition setting (HDFX) that is meant to be 1,920x1,080 @ 25fps.

I'm just filming mainly to have a bit of fun and if they want them to give copies to the people I'm jumping with but I'm having problems grabbing still from the video.

Attached are two examples.

The camera is set up the same in both cases, the software used is the same in both cases and the method of grabbing is the same but the difference could not be more marked.

blurred.jpg shows considerable movement / motion blur in the subjects

j237exit.jpg is ok, I'd be happy to post that on facebook or similar. It's not good enough to print but it is ok.

I'm using Corel VideoStudio X4 to edit / grab frames but even if I use Zoom Pro or VLC to play the vid, pause it and grab the frame from there it's no different.

Any suggestions ?? and I'm not strapping a still camera to my head!!

Thanks guys!!

Welcome to how video frames are made. Look up interlacing and you'll get a much better understanding of the issue. You will always have this issue with Interlaced cameras.

cd supplied with CX cameras contains PMB software which can take surprisingly good framegrabs (final image has resolution bigger than 1920x1080, i don't know how...)

I had suspected that was the issue but at the same time I wasn't expecting it as I had done a quick search on cx115 interlaced and hadn't found much (in the top 20 searches) but a new search for interlaced cx115 found plenty :(

I had installed that on my desktop computer but not on the laptop I use for video editing. I'll give it a try - thanks :)

The software understands that a single frame 'grab' isn't really a 'complete' single frame due to interlacing, and 'builds' a complete single frame from the interlaced components (the frame prior to/after the actual 'grabbed' frame.)

this is what i thought too, even merged from two fields, one full HD frame should have 1920x1080 pixels. but these have 2304x1296...

the cool thing is...

I had some old vids from my FS1 jumps that my coach had given me.

Loaded them up into PMB and grabbed stills from them without any interlacing problems so the software is not just great for CX115 vids :)
