High wing loading on Katana's Can't Post

Any one loading there Katana at 2.25? I'm thinking about going to a 97. Just interested in how they fly at this wing loading. I know PD's MSW is 193, but I'm still considering it. If any one is doing this I'd really like your feed back.

I demo a 97 on that WL it was a rocket!! too ground hungry for my taste. I had Katanas 120 / 107/ and the 97 lost too much glide ratio, it was good on swoops due to all that speed but I got into a few jumps were I had to land off when everyone made it back that in fact make me conclude that I need it to try Velocities I been jumping a velo 96 since !

Hey BETO, Thanks for the Info. I've jumped a velo 96 and loved it. The reason I'm thinking of going to the katana 97 is I have a small container that fits a 107 tight and I don't think I could fit the velo 96 in it.

Vladi Pesa used to jump a KA at 2.5 and loved it, I believe.

Personally, I found that I far preferred the velo once I hit the 2.0 loading range.

I put 19 jumps this weekend on a katana 97. It's one very ground hungery canopy. It was fun to fly but most of my openings were off heading and stossed me around alot. Is this normal for them at this wing loading?

I don't understand why some choose to fly katana, crossfire or stilleto at very high wingloading.
Their usual respose is " i don't want super aggressive canopy" and yet they try to swoop the hell out of it everytime they land.

When any canopy is highly loaded i'm of the opinion they instantly become super aggressive regardless of planform.(so i see your point)re:I don't want a super aggressive canopy.
I'm currently loading a xf2 @ 2.1 and love it.
Reasons for not switching to x-brace.
1.Don't compete.
2.Don't think an x-brace will make me a better pilot as all skills and some can be and should be mastered on non x-brace.(IMO)
re: it's the indian not the arrow.
3.I'm spoilt for openings
4.Whats the rush.
5.(most important)the chicks really don't care.

I've jumped a Katana loaded at 2.1 and 2.3. I didn't like how it flew and would much rather be under a Velo at those (and higher) loadings.

The Katana was a rocket sled elevator to the first floor at those loadings, but it didn't have the bottom end and stability that the Velo does at those loadings. At 1.7 and 1.9 the Katana was the best all around 9-cell non-xbraced canopy I have ever jumped in terms of a swoop monster.

1. Ok
2. They won't make you better pilot but they just fly better (not only faster/futher but better in general including flying back from long spot) at such WL
Regarding mastering of skills - IMO Should be mastered not only on non-x but also at more docile WL

1. I don't compete niether
2. Rifle kills alot better than the arrow.
re: you are gonna have to relearn everything once you move on
3. JVX opens just as nice as crossfire
4. Older you get you get way slower reaction time
5. That is what you keep telling yourself.

Agreed with learning skills at a more doclle WL, but if you have stopped learning then it's time to give up..
Hope we can all agree on that one.

Note: I've been jumping Crossfires since 2003 and don't find jumping one at 2.1 an issue.

Didn't say non X brace flies better just said i like flying mine.Wink
Within reason i have no issues getting back from bad spots.

With regards to Stayhigh and reactions.
Agreed reactions are important for the unforseeable, but imo there is nothing aggressive about agressive canopy flight and if your still digging and having to make radical adjustments in order to survive because of inability to fly with precision then again give up or go back to something more docile.

I load my 97 at 2:1 and love it. It's ground hungry/divey, but that speed translates well when rear risering back from a long spot and, of course, swooping.

Echoing other son here... I've flown the Velo 84 a bit and would prefer that were I to go down a size. I'd definitely keep both canopies, though.
