What is the lowest break off altitude that you have ever seen or done doing downplane?

With F-111 7 cells you can get under a 100 feet with a slower terminal velocity than ZP canopies. I've done it many times. Wink

Going from break-off directly to flaring the landing is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. You only get one chance to get it right. Crazy

And lived? Too many people have been killed or severely injured over the years from low downplanes. Break em high..

Zero feet, and we impacted on a concrete runway - not recommended!

Safe breakoff height depends on canopy choice, wind conditions, your orientation to the windline immediately before breakoff, other traffic in the circuit and the skill/experience of the canopy pilots.

Although skydivers will appreciate the difference between a breakoff at 400 and one at 100, most members of the public wont. Keep it high and safe; take it from someone who knows!

Pete.
