Re: Jo Thompson [In reply to] Can't Post

Damn! I am deeply saddened to hear this news.

Tommy passed away six years ago following a tragic off-field landing accident, and a long time in the hospital in a coma. His wife Jo was also a jumper.

In the photo, Tommy is on the left packing the canopy, and Jo is on the right side in the yellow shirt.

Here's a link to Tommy's memorial page in this forum:;#841223

This is frightening that we have both a husband and wife here. And even worse, the friend who made the initial post on Tommy's accident in the Incident forum, has also since passed away due to complications from routine surgery, in 2007. The link to that thread can be found in the thread link referenced above.

Tommy & Jo were a beautiful married couple that were absolutely happy together.

Indeed this is very sad. I miss them both.

However, God willing I will meet up with Jo and Tommy again some day and we can funnel another exit together!!!

Re: [montyfree] Jo Thompson [In reply to] Can't Post

I attended the funeral services in Houston. There were about 20 people present, all family, except for a very few skydivers. Jo had twin sons, both full grown now, and who still look very much alike. One is a 1st lieutenant in the Army, and he was looking very sharp in his dress uniform. Instead of the usual collection of photos that you see at funerals, there was a slideshow playing on a large-screen TV. Many of the images featured Jo's skydiving, as did also the stories being told about her life. Jo was 63 years young. After the chapel services, Jo was loaded into a hearse and taken to Clute, Texas, for burial in Restwood Memorial Park. Clute is south of Houston near the Gulf coast, and near La Porte where she had been living.

A photo of a painted portrait of Jo is attached.

Jo and Tommy were some of the nicest people to share the sky with. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jo's friends and family.

Rich and I were out of town when Jo passed or we would have been there too. I missed this thread, too. That's a really nice portrait- it catches her warmth well. So thanks to pepperoni for bringing all the Texas threads.
