Standard def vs High Def - Tape based vs solid memory. I tossed out my HC3 in favor of a CX100 this year. The camera really is that good and if you are planning on ever swapping to HD footage at some point the CX100 is a great starting point. Using a Mac is not going to slow you down that much, it will probally still be faster then caputring from tape.
