Cost of Hip Rings Can't Post

My apologies if this has already been discussed. There are many posts and I couldn't find what I was looking for...

Hip rings appear to cost anywhere between $90 to $200US as an extra option. How come these are so expensive? Being a newbie, to me they just look like an extra bit of steel. Are they difficult or time consuming to add to the harness? Are the rings themselves expensive (because the have to be custom manufactured, or are speciality item)? Or perhaps the price is dictated by what the market will bear (after all, they people who make rigs are running a business, not a charity)?

Cheers,
NewGuy Cool

Hip rings are a really cool idea - the allow greater freedom of movement by allowing be harness to flex more. They're worth the money I rekon.

Absolutly..... go for the ringed harness if you are planing on spending lots of time in your harness...CReW dogs and Freeflyers swear by them. I love mine and consider them MUST HAVES on my next rig!

Do I HAVE to do another raft dive??? Smile

Get them!

They make sitting/laying/crunching in the plane much more comfortable.

Thanks guys...

I'm definately after the hip rings. Putting comfort aside - I just wanted to know what is so magical about them that they cost so much? Does la little more webbing, sewing and two steel rings really cost that much to the manufacturer that the cost is passed on to the consumer?

It's the cost of paying the people that beat the homeless Honduran kids which sew the harnesses in Kathy Lee's sweat shop. They're union ya know......

That's why they are more. Simple economics. Price of anything has little to do with how much it costs to make. It has everything to do with what people will pay. Long term, we set prices. Short term, shit happens.

But this is a simple case of they can so they do.

People can be annoying like that. But if you complain about it, they just ignore you. Most of the time you just have to bend over for them.

The actual cost of manufacture may not be that much, but they also need to recoupe their R&D costs.
