Goodbye "Skydiving Magazine"? Can't Post

I received this today:

"Hi, April --

We have suspended the magazine -- indefinitely. January was our last issue.

Mike has been publishing the magazine for about 30 years and I have been here for more than 22 years, so we are both looking forward to exploring new options -- and maybe taking a little down time.

It's been nice working with you, April. Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,
Sue Clifton"

Sign of the times ? If so, it sucks. I hope they can revive it if situations improve.

Do I get a refund for the unpublished issues?

Wow, I was just about to renew. I'm shocked. Despite the digital age, you can't beat paper in your hand. Plus the world-wide coverage of skydiving and BASE that couldn't be found elsewhere. Shame. Frown

Just got off the phone with them.

They mailed refunds to all subscribers for any remaining issues and a note about the suspension.

I for one hope it is a short suspension and that Skydiving Magazine cames back as good as ever soon!

That's a shame - I subscribed for a year and enjoyed it so much that I re-upped for three years. Although the coverage could sometimes border on gossipy, it was nice to have an alternative viewpoint to Parachutist. It will be missed.

This really sucks I was planning on renewing my subscription this month.

What was their reason for the suspension? Not enough subscribers or maybe something else?

Deland tower being built.

This really sucks...for $12/year its a steal...I'd pay double that easy.

Is that a joke? What does the tower have to do with the magazine?

That sucks. It took me 10 years of jumping to subscribe and they shut down a few months later. Maybe they'll sell to someone that wants to keep it going...

Hi Madison,

WOW!

I've known Mike for a long time and that one came out of nowhere for me. Unsure

If there is one thing this sport needs, in this country anyway, is an alternate look at things. The magazine gave us that. Cool

PS) My first issue was #2 & I haven't missed one since.

While we're at it, now is a good a time as any to announce that Fayard sold all of his airplanes.

All of his planes or just the Casa 212s? I had heard a rumor that he was going to sell the Casas to Blackwater, but I didn't know if it was real or just a rumor.

AFAIK, all of them. Supposedly all of the current leases to various DZs will be honored though. Sorry for the hijack.

This really does suck. The magazine was awesome. I have boxes of the magazine right from the second issue to a couple of months ago and now it is over. I hope they bring it back or something similar comes about.

Noooooooo! I was probably one of the few people who did a 10 year subscription and I was about to re-up it again. By far and away my favorite magazine that I always look forward to. Damn damn damn. Frown
