yes, I have done so. It is definately "brickish" with a newer canopy, but as long as you know how to pack, it's not a problem.

What size is the reserve?

I think you're going to end up with a very uncomfortable rig that may have less than perfect riser and pin protection because you're shoe horning canopies into it that it was never designed to take.

The M3 is designed for PD canopies in about the 150 size max.

huh ?

from Mirage site :
Main Canopies

Manufacturer Model Size Canopy Fit
Performance Designs Sabre I/II 135 Medium
Performance Designs Sabre I/II 150 Snug
Performance Designs Spectre 135 Medium
Performance Designs Spectre 150 Snug
Performance Designs Spectre 170 It's a brick!
Performance Designs Stilletto 135 Medium
Performance Designs Stilletto 150 Snug
Performance Designs Stilletto 170 It's a brick!
Performance Designs Vengence 120 Medium
Performance Designs Vengence 135 Snug
Performance Designs Vengence 150 It's a brick!

so it fits 170's like the Stiletto and Spectre... I know I have put a crossfire2-169 in an M3 as well.

Yes.

The Spectre is a 7 cell. Fewer ribs = Less fabric. And it's a brick.
The Stilleto is an eliptical. Tapered trailing edge = Less fabric. And it's a brick.
The Crossfire is an eliptical. Tapered leading and trailing edges = less fabric. And it's a brick.

Since you posted the info from the mirage site - do you see a Sabre1/11 170 in there?

I don't.

In addition, main canopy size is only half the equasion which is why I asked for the reserve size. If a "like a brick" main is combined with a tight reserve packjob, with a cypres, at a 5000ft AMSL DZ, the rig may well be impossible to pack. (Parachutes pack bigger at altitude.)

In short, it's not on the list you posted for a reason.
Can you fit a Sabre 2 170 in a Mirage G3 M3? Yes.
Is it a sensible, practical, safe, comfortable thing to do? No.

So I'm looking to buy a Mirage G4 M3 with an optimum 176 and put a Sabre 2 or Pilot 168. Is it a pain to pack?

I asked something similar to mirage, here is there response

A 170 9 cell would be really tight in the M3. We generally do not recommend doing a 170/160 combo in anything lower than an M4. If it were a 170 7 cell or a hybrid, like a Pulse or something, I would say go for it. Ask your local rigger if they have any experience with this combination. Any older Sabre 170 might be ok in this but like I said we dont recommend it. Hopefully this helps. Take care!

hope that helps

If you are buying the pilot new and really, really want to make it work-the ZPX version may be an answer.

I have a Pilot 140 ZPX in a Mirage G3 MT (Super SMALL container) with a PDR 126/Vigil and it packs nicely. A Spectre 120 was tight in the same container, a Velo 103 was a good fit. The Pilot I have is brand new ZPX with HMA lines. It might be a different story with fat-er lines.

Lastly-Tonto is right-size of reserve is an issue.

This really helps, thank you. I just called Aerodyne and they confirmed the ZPX pilot material will pack a size smaller. I'm going to get a demo and try it out.
