There is a picture in Poynter's Manual, Volume One, in the chapter covering containers.
The model sits there, smiling, with a lap type container in his lap and the appropriate harness wrapped around his torso.
Technically, lap type containers are similar to many military-surplus chest or seat type containers: cotton fabric, wire frame in pack tray, two pins, pack-opening-bands, etc.

Hmmm. LAP <> lap.

LAP = launch assist platform, like rocket first stage. Recovered after launch by means of a parachute system (LAP parachute).
