Slider bumpers over rapide links... Can't Post

OK....so I have a new canopy with the slider bumper silicone material ( quite stiff) above the rapide links on the lines.....
I have tried getting them over the links with brute force , but the material is quite stiff and I'm really struggling to get it over the link's barrel........

I know there must be an easier way of doing this ..!

Can anybody offer me enlightenment on this simple...yet frustrating issue?

Hi,
Place a pull up cord through the link.

Heat the bumper slightly with a hair dryer.

Run the pull up through the inside of the bumper.

Then pull it into place.

MEL

Here is what we do in our shop!
Grap a cup with water and soap, mix it up and use the pull up cord like masterrigger1 mentioned. You just need to lubricate the slider bumpers with some thing. Simple like that!!!Wink

I lick the rapide links right before I slide the bumpers on. (Sorry if that's an overshare. Wink)

Anyway, seems to work pretty well. And I've had no complaints from either the links or the bumpers.

Doesn't the soap leave a residue?

I like visualizing the licking technique. I'm going stamp all my new assemblies as, "Licked by Bonnie". Angelic

Might also try silicon spray lubricant (ACE hardware sells a good one). This is the same stuff that Booth recommends for cleaning/lubricating cut-a-way cables. (Be careful not to use the spray silicon adhesive!!)

While this should work well, the imagery does not carry the same weight... Wink

I don't think so Bonnie. I never had any problem with that. It's better than hurting my hand!Wink
Actually, I don't see silicone bumpers very often anymore, do you?!

What a daft comment.

Anyway, back to the subject, the way I was shown to get these on (by Clem, incidentally Wink) was to grab the silicone tubing in the left hand (with the top of the hand orientated towards the links) and with the right hand, take 3-4 wraps on the lines for leverage. Give a solid pull and, hey presto, they go on all the way. Smile

Enjoy that canopy dude! Wink

No way they were going on by brute force alone.....no way at all...
I tried the soap idea.....just a tiny smidge on the top of the link and it works a treat.

Darren
just get new bumpers that fit better.
not the hard ones but the soft plyable ones.
just ask your rigger for a pair.
or better yet take them off someone elses rig at the DZ
thats always good for a luagh

Twisting the bumpers while pulling them down over the links seems to work for me.
