F*&$t wingsuit jumps Can't Post

Awesome!

Was in the bar last Sunday night and made a comment that I'd really like to get into wingsuit flying. Less than 12 hours later I was briefed up, suited up and on lift 1!

Put 10 jumps in: some solos, 2 ways, 3 ways and a 4 way. Got my average (on the Classic I was borrowing) down to 53mph on one jump which was pretty sweet.

So the order forms should be on their way to me right now and I'll have the suit just in time for the British winter Crazy.

It's just too much fun!

I would've thought your skinny butt could fall that slow without a wingsuit... Wink

Where did you make these wingsuit jumps and how many jumps do you have in total now?

Yes yes, it's fair to say that I have the right build for flying a wingsuit. One word: gangly.

I figure with a GTI that fits properly (the Classic was ok but not great) and with a few more jumps I should be able to get into the 40s.

All at Langar, I had last week off to conincide with the Skyvan being there. I have about 390 jumps, got a brief, a Classic, CCI approval and off I went!

Did some cool jumps where we left a 30 or 45 sec gap between the last group and us and just blasted back to the dz. The vertical and horizontal range of speeds is just amazing. Jumped with Hippo (TM with x thousand jumps) and I've never seen anyone smile so much, you just can't fail to get a buzz from sunset flocking.Smile

Dude you gotta try it.

Well, I personally know of people with less than 500 skydives who have jumped wingsuits at quite a few English DZs. Has the BPA relaxed their attitude? Do you only need CCI's approval and Birdman authorized instruction?

Funny how the BPA jump number requirement for wingsuits is 500 yet it is only 200 for skysurfing.

OK, so I am only bitching because I am 143 jumps short of 500... Wink

Will, you are more than qualified as far as jump numbers goes to recieve your first flight training, at least in the USA. I know you just spent your load in Sweden, but aren't you still planning a trip to the USA here shortly? Bring your monkey ass on over to Raeford and lets mix it up.

As far as I'm aware the BPA's 500 jump limit is just a recommendation and all you really need is CCI approval. 500 seems a bit mandatory to me, I think the BPA just wants to cover its arse incase some low-timer takes a suit out and bounces.

Well I didn't get that, just a brief on exits, body position, pull-time and emergency procedures. If your CCI knows you quite well (which I know yours does Wink) and thinks you're safe then I'm sure he'll be cool with it.

For what it's worth I think if I coped alright with less than 500 then most other people could too, even you!

I'm a newbie that doesn't know sh%t about the wing suits.

I've seen the video that used to be on the Larsen & Brusgaard website where the guy base jumped in norway and had a 46 second delay.

Were you wearing a Pro-Track to see you delay time?

I was just interested in the freefall time compared to the same jump and pull altitudes in RW freefall.

thanks,

I was, my best was 105 seconds from 13500 feet but pulling high (around 5500) as they were my first jumps. At that kind of fallrate I'd need a little over 9000 feet of freefall to hit 2 minutes in flight.

Take a look at the front page of the birdman website, there's a list of 60+ second base flights - some are approaching 90 seconds!

Did you download the data? If you did, send it to me and I'll host it on jumptrack.com. I don't know whether you have the software and cable but probably not since you were at the DZ for a week and you started jumping the birdman at the beginning? I had my laptop with me at the weekend. Should've downloaded it for you. I'll probably have it with me again this weekend if I'm up. If you haven't over-ridden it in the last ten jumps I'll grab it. Or I'll get the data from your next one.

I don't have JumpTrack (yet) so I can't download anything. I bought the ProTrack with the intention of doing wingsuit and speed skydiving jumps so I'll get the JumpTrack stuff eventually.

Thanks for the offer of the laptop, remind me next time we're both at the dz and we'll try it, I'd like to see the results.

Wow! Gusset! You're a real mean, moody wingsuit flyer! Awesome.

Where were you at the weekend? I managed to drag my carcass up there and did some jumps. 5 way sit with tube and others.

Hmm, perhaps I need to be a little bit more current before wingsuit flights are for me... Wink
