Did he have permission from the city officials? I had heard that one plane owner wouldn't fly there because of a question about the permits and FAA. The beach doesn't belong to the hotels....it belongs to the city. What happened? Political BS from city officials? Did somebody get hurt?...that sucks!

Sebastian is going to be OFF THE HOOK now!
I know this inconveniences some people who were going to Marco. If anyone flying in, etc wants to go to Sebastian, I can haul an extra tent out there for someone to stay in. The hotels are quite booked.

It's gonna be hella cold, Mark. Lows in the 40's. I don't know how long lingerie will last out there, especially on us native Floridians. I might take one pic with lingerie with Dee, but beyond that I don't think i'd last too long, might get frostbite or something!

I just spoke to Bob and the jumping has moved to Skydive La-Belle or just La-Belle. Either one its called.......its about 30 Mi. east of Ft. Myers and they are moving the planes and most of the jumpers are going there to finish out the jumping. Kudos for Bob for pulling another one out of his ass so skydivers could skydive. The city of Marco Island, really screwed Skydive Greensburg, after they asked him four days ago for half a million dollars of insurance to cover a boogie that they knew they were going to pull the plug on. thats the scoop though folks, Bob asked me to post it.

Amazing how the "MI has been cancelled" thread is now about the temps, clothing, etc at Sebastian. I've seen derailments before, but the speed of this one was impressive.

Hey Swoop, Talked to Tammie and Art..it seems that there were several people that didn't make it to the landing area from the second load today. Also, an incident with a powerline...nothing fatal from what I have heard. The specifics haven't been confirmed.

So the city asked for $500,000 worth of insurance.(which I don't think ANY skydiving business can get for a boogie can they?) Did Bob find it and THEN the city pulled the plug, or did he not get the insurance and the city pulled? Either way it sounds like the city screwed them.
**update** just got a phone call from somebody there. I guess somebody broke an ankle and had another in the powerlines on the first day. I have had the "pleasure" of dealing with city officials at another boogie that isn't held at a "normal" dz. We as skydivers really have to treat these things with kid gloves. That means making SURE every skydiver there is CURRENT AND CAPABLE of the landing area. We are going to find ourselves like base jumpers in that city officials won't allow us anywhere because of skydivers reputations. We had to jump through some hoops a couple weeks ago at a boogie because of a group of skydivers that were there a couple months before us. I just hate to see us not be able to jump at these awesome locations because city officials are tired of incidents...

Leave it to Bob to find a way to get the t's crossed and the i's dotted. But I think he DID get insurance of some type or other for the boogie but I don't know the details. They did have a jumper clip a power line with her feet while she was coming over and caused a hard landing, nothing serious, either bruised or broken tail bone. It was definately well planned out and experienced jumpers were there but there were some serious underlying politics going on with the city that hosed them.
