1960 Fatality Info Please Can't Post

I live in the Augusta, GA area and recently was told about a demo fatality that supposedly occurred at a now defunct race track here (International Speedway I believe the name was). The story I was told was that it was a female jumper, her husband flying the plane, and got no fabric out. This would have been in the 1959-1963 time frame I believe. Does anyone have any knowledge of this incident and possibly any particulars?

My sincere thanks in advance.

Jeff

1960?

I doubt we're going to learn anything from this one so I'm moving it.

Tonto,

This is History & Trivia, I doubt he wants to do an investigation. Maybe looking for confirmation of something that may just be a skydiving myth.Tongue

I think that there is a greater likelyhood of people reading History and trivia who may remember such an incident.

"The purpose of this forum (Incidents) is to report, discuss and learn from fatal and serious non-fatal incidents.

Most, if not all, new threads here should start with the report of an actual incident. "

We don't even know if there was an actual incident. There may have been several as the "1959-1963" timeframe requested covers 4 years.

Do you think anyone could learn from it if there was one considering the changes in gear, training etc that have occured in the last 45 years?

If we have confirmation of an incident - we can always move it back.

t

If this fatality did occur, I have narrowed down the time frame to 1963 or 1964 with a probability of November 17th, 1963. The official name of the track was The Augusta International Raceway. I hope this helps jog some memories.

Thanks again-
Jeff

I misunderstood, I read it after you had already moved it.

I agree, it belongs in H&T.

OK. I gave the date to my mom. She said I was 20 months old in November 1963. We lived half a world away, in a country which would not have TV until 13 years after the incident.

She doesn't remember me wanting to skydive then.

Does that help?Smile

At least we're keeping the thread at the top of the page!

A very good point...

I was 7 years old and I believe that we had about 8 TV channels, but of course they were only B/W.
I really liked Sky King and of course Super Man. My mom even made me a red cape!Cool

But I don't have any information in regard to the fatality in 1963.Unimpressed

I too have managed, barely, to keep the topic of this thread on course with the original postWink

And I lived a 1/3 world away, ina city with 2 TV channels. But we didn't have a television. I was 8. Had I known about skydiving, I'd've probably been interested in it.

But I did PM someone whose father was jumping in the south at that time -- maybe his dad will remember something.

1963-
I was a bad ass 7th grader then. Back in the days when the thought of jumping out of a plane scared the crap out of me. Adventure was hunting gophers with a pellet gun or 22. Girls were a mystery and considered inferior to us men folk. Back in the days when we listened to records and a little dab of Brilcreem would do ya. Tough guys looked like Fondsie, and my favorite Western was Bonanza....Ahh those were the days.....Steve1
