Strange ebay rig ad
Can't Post
I was looking through ebay and this ad just seemed strange to me; it doesn't sound like it was written by a skydiver and the price seems really too low. It may be legit, but anybody recognize the rig as stolen or anything?
The rig is very old, i'm sure they are just starting the bidding low, it will probably go up, but not by the thousands;o) Besides, they have listed serial #'s, too. I don't know how to check them, but i'm sure there is a way.

Where to begin... 1.) a Manta is a 9 cell not a 7 2.) I find it hard to believe that someone can jam this main and reserve into a J5. It would more likely be a J8 3.) it was most likely used as student gear. You may notice the two bits of black tape on the upper sides of the main flaps. These are usually for elastic bands to hold bridle or static line (although there are usually more for static line).
It probably wasn't student gear origionally because thier is no MLW adjuster.
That's about all the sluething I can come up with.
After 800 jumps that Manta might be tired, depending upon where it was jumped (desert?). Mantas normally go into Javelin J7s, so that explains why the main container looks "bulged." J5 is better suited to canopies in the 220 square foot range. As for the Phantom 28 round reserve ... Hah! Hah! Hah! Around here we use Phantoms for boat covers.
The rig might be useful as a student rig (for small students with 220 square foot canopies), or as a transition rig, but it will need new canopies.
So the price only reflects the value of a container that needs to be washed.
