Re: [goofyjumper] 10th anniversary at skydive tallahassee [In reply to] Can't Post

Let me start with my understanding of what happened.I was told that the owner of Skydive Tallahassee is upset with him for organizing a trip to another dz for the weekend. This is what I am stating my comments on.
I have been organizing events for acouple of years that at times take people away from the DZ.The reason for this is to get together with old friends and make new ones. Why do it off the DZ you ask???It is because of crap like this that makes some people not want to go here or there. In the process we have made new friends at new dz's and then we go to visit our new friends at their dz.Just to clarify how this all works in the long run what goes around comes around. You might miss a few jumpers one weekend and gain a few on another.Well......unless you make everyone mad for some reason and everyone decides they would rather be somewhere else with their friends.
I heard nothing but good things about the DZ in Tallahassee from the group that came up to The Farm on the 14th.But from the looks of it I would not be welcome there either as I am guilty on the same thing Lee is.

Chris

Chris, I seriously doubt you would not be welcome there. I don't know what happened and it is none of my business either but i know the boogie will be fun and you don't need to miss it. Of course you know there will be bands there and me from Mirage, Aubrey and Nick from Aerodyne, Erika from Birdman, the PD crew as well and TJ will be coaching and organizing. It would be good to see you anyway so make sure you are there!! JT

Chris;

You have been misinformed. It has nothing to with that at all. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Anybody who knows me knows that I myself am quilty of that. I am probably the only DZO in the World who closes my DZ to go fun jump at other DZs with jumpers from my DZ.

You are very welcome here and have always been. If you decide not to come to the party, we'll miss you. But please think again before making a decision based on an inaccurate report.

Guys, remember there is always two sides to every story and this is obviously something the dzo does not want to talk about on the internet, nor should she feel obliged to. I suggest everyone let this issue drop in this thread and get back to planning and discussing a kick-ass anniversary boogie. If you have any more questions about Lee, I'm sure they can be handled better via pm or in person at the boogie. Smile

This thread is now going in entirely the wrong direction [In reply to] Can't Post

Being that this is my first boogie in the place where I was born as a skydiver, that I will be largely responsible for maintaining the atmosphere of the party, and that I intend to make it my personal duty to make all of our visitors feel at home, I would REALLY appreciate it if we could stay focused on the subject at hand, and avoid sidetracking this thread with accusations, implications and rumor mongering.

Yes, Lee started this thread, but if I may be so bold, I've expended almost as much effort to keep it going, and building, for the simple reason that: I love my fellow skydivers, and I love to see people I love having a good time.

I'm not trivializing anyone or their feelings. No one who knows me can question how I feel about each of the people on my dropzone, or how I feel about possible issues between them. But I won't be discussing it on this particular post, if any.

In my short time of hearing skydivers repeatedly characterized as a family, I've learned it's basically true. And therefore I'm not surprised that -like my own family- we find it instinctually challenging to mind our own business. I'm not trivializing that either. It's that same instinct that keeps us watching each others backs from the door to the ground, and throughout the days. But, just like with family, if there is an issue between a particular number of people on a particular dropzone, it's probably better dealt with by the IMMEDIATE FAMILY FIRST, then maybe by others as they are invited into the discussion.

Of course, I also understand that we are a breed not renowned for keeping our thoughts to ourselves. In fact, I was of that breed long before I ever set foot on a dropzone. So if you absolutely can't restrain yourself from making what has been characterized as an "internal" issue public, I ask and urge you to make use of another thread ...

Strike that, skymama's suggestion is even better:
Quote:
If you have any more questions about Lee, I'm sure they can be handled better via pm or in person

...so that we can keep using this one for it's original purpose: promoting what some of us have worked -and will continue to work- very hard to make sure is the best and most enjoyable boogie possible.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as can possibly be here. And once again, if you have any particular music you must hear to make your Saturday night complete feel free to (in fact, it would be a big help if you) place your requests early at
fullspectrumentertainment@earthlink.net

One Love,
-RR

Rumble, I'm with you on the sunset load. Even though I'm a FF at heart, this is the 10th anniversary party. It's going to be about going back to the good ole days for me, so I'll try to squeze into the RW suit and jump with you old farts(oops I think I am in that category now) Oh yea, If you could take me out on a few of the skydives, it sure would feel like old times when I used to jump with you guys.

You'll be getting sucked in to these crazy ass jumpers and everything that they relate to deeper and deeper sooner than you think you will. I am stiill learning like you but it is so much fun to have a GREAT group like the skydivetallahassee.com crew to take you through the learning process. Every day that I am out at the DZ someone teaches me something new to keep me and all of the other jumpers safe, for that I am eternally thankful. Let's keep up the learning and have a great time at the 10 yr party.

He was a little too slow........so we killed him.

Ah, don't pick on Jeff, you know he's all married now & keeps having those kids so the the only playing he gets to do these days is with the Little Mermaid & such.

Another update CONFIRMED :Chris Martin representing PRECISION AERODYNAMICS with a bunch of demo canopies. So everybody can try every thing & let the best canopies win !!!

Speaking of canopies & winning. We are putting together a little low key swoop meet on Sunday morning at 9 AM... (we figure not too many people wil be up to swooping that early) It will be 3 rounds, 2 Accuracy & 1 distance....there is NO ENTRANCE FEE.....It will be 4-5K Cessna jumps for $10...
All prizes (not your typical skycive boogie prizes) will be donated by the DZ, North Florida Parachute Sales & Service and various other non-skydiving related sponsors.

How about all the rw people who are interested, we have a 10 way speed star comp?

Rumor is Kevin Murphy might show up - you could hit him full on and not move him an inch.

How about a fastest belly flyer contest? With all the hype around hybrids and such we need to find out who can hang. I did about 20 hybrids at WFFC some of them with me flying solo and no hangers. I think I might be the first FF videographer on my belly.Cool

Not to mention, it would be a great way for me to find some RW partners...Unimpressed

Oh man! What memories...Remember the last time we tried the speed star thing.....up at Quincy IL, dueling speed star race.....out of a Casa or Skyvan...the old farts (of which I was one) against the youngsters--we thought for sure we'd kick their butts with all that old time swoop ability, but alas they beat us by about 1/5th of a second (can we blame that one on Ashmore??? or was it someone else...me maybe??) But, now that some of the youngsters are with us old farts...hmmmm maybe we can beat the new crop of youngsters.....:) And if Kevin shows up, well that's like BASE-O-MATIC.....in fact if what I've heard about Tony is true, He & Kevin could be an awsome base for some hybrid jumps..

Not only that, she also seems to be of that extremely rare breed of people who are always right. (It sounds like bragging, but it's actually a curse. One that I myself know all too well.)

Indeed. You've got all day to hold hands or plunge headlong toward the ground like a big, sqhuishy lawn dart. But when the horizon turns gold I say get your feet out and your head up.

Last one to the end of the sky buys the beer.
