Two Navy SEALs were critically injured in a skydiving accident in Pinal County on Thursday, authorities said.

The people landed in two separate areas after they collided in midair.

Pinal County Sheriffs Office deputies went to an incident that was turned over to military investigators at 1 p.m. near the Pinal Airpark located northwest of the Tucson area.

That article is not very clear but I assume these were Seals jumping with the military as part of their training? Not two Seals sport jumping on their day off.

There is no "sport jumping" at Pinal.

Scuttlebutt around here is that they collided immediately after opening and both landed under good mains. One of them later died at the hospital.

It was military ops training at pinal.

Maybe slightly off topic; are military, BLM, Forest Service, etc. incidents in the USPA statistics? I'm guessing no.

There were a group of army guys at Lyons one weekend when the Mullins King Air was there for the weekend. They were jumping PF375 mains, in groups of 8 I think. What was really odd to me was that they didn't track, deployed in very close proximity. Also landed in very close proximity. Apparently, if someone is potentially shooting at you, your priorities are different.

Level 1 proficiency means your entire element can land within a 50 meter circle at night with combat equipment.
