This is my resolve. Can't Post

Well I made a few jumps in 2007 with my aim being my license. Well I injured myself (my fault) and baloon'd up to 275 lbs Shocked. Now I am on a mission to get back up in the sky in May of 2013 to go back for my license. I have already lost 16 lbs. I work out daily and have changed my diet completely. I can't wait to jump again.

I have resolved to change my life and start skydiving again.

I can't wait.

Good for you!!!Smile

So, many people find reason why they CAN"T do something, it is refreshing to see somebody making the effort to do something.

There are so many excuses why we don't do what we really want and not enough resolve to achieve a goal.

Congrats on your resolve and good luck.

Be safe!!!

That's awesome! And I think it's good that you're giving yourself a reasonable amount of time to lose the weight. It seems too many people get impatient and set themselves up to fail by expecting too much too soon.

Keep us posted on your progress! It's exciting when the pounds start to melt off.

Well today is day 64 since I decided to make this decision and as of today I am now at 253 lbs!! Lost another 1 1/2 lbs last week! I stretch everyday, strength train mon-fri, and do cardio as much as I can.

I can't wait until March. My wife is even on board now and is almost more excited than I am.

Well I lost another lb this past week and am currently 252 lbs. Starting at 275 lbs that's stilll not too shabby since I'm only 70 days in. I obviously need to start to work harder to brake 250 by next Monday. I want to get into the tunnel and start flying again before next season starts.

Yippee!! I think of my husband who has been obese most of his adult life-265 at his heaviest. Over the course of the past year and a half, he's lost over 80 lbs. I think slow, gradual changes are so much more sustainable. For him, it was the changes to his diet that really kickstarted his weight loss.

Interestingly, he started to feel more confident, too. And women started checking him out. Wink

Keep it up!! It just gets better and better. Smile

Yeah changing your diet and understanding what your body needs to sustain is so much better than any stupid diet that's out there.

All I am doing is watching what I eat and working out.

That's it.

Feeling better and looking better is definitely a plus but my major plus will be when I get that letter A with a number combination after it. Sly

Woot! You're down to about what I was on my first AFF jump! Since july 7th, I've lost about 20 pounds. Not so much because Skydiving is a workout, but I finally have some motivation to get in shape! Just from eating a bit less and doing some pushups and situps in the morning, it's just been coming off!

I read your other thread that you resurrected. That was kinda weird, getting 6 years of updates when I was expecting the timeline to be less. I had to go back and look at the dates while scratching my head.

I imagine a lot HAS happened in 6 years, but I'm glad to see you're back in the sport. I don't see many people who seem to have the enthusiasm that you do. You were excited to have surgery!

Hopefully this time around, it'll be the right time for you! Do keep us posted on your progress!

I'm glad the thread was still there. I wish I still had the video. Lot's of people don't believe how bad it really was. It was a freak accident that was my fault.

Definitely won't happen again. I am definitely enthusiastic!! I can still remember what it felt like 6 years ago to be sitting at the door excited to roll out of the plane for my cat B. This time around I will remember to pull.

I have an old Altimaster V on my lunch bag that I stare at every day. I would wear it on my wrist everywhere but that would be taking it a bit to far. Either way I won't forget to pull this time and I will be a skydiver hopefully before I turn 35. Smile

Well I was bound to have at least one week where I didn't lose any weight. Still at 246 lbs. I will obviously have to stop eating cake for breakfast and cookies for lunch for a while. It is good to know that I didn't gain any weight even though I ate like an asshole all week long and didn't do any strength training. Time to start lifting more, pushing myself harder, and eating better. (I didn't GAIN any weight which is a positive note) Angelic

Empty carbs no good! If you still drink sodas, swap 'em out for water (Or black coffee if you can't live without caffeine, like me ;-) and that'll help a lot too! I mostly didn't exercise and mostly didn't gain much weight after I stopped drinking sodas back in '98. All things in moderation, too. Stop eating when you're comfortably full, even if there's still food on the plate!

If you're strength training, you're going to be losing fat but gaining muscle. So it's not too surprising to hit plateaus. Just make sure to build healthy habits around eating right and exercise, and don't get discouraged if you backslide a little every once in a while. As long as you keep your eyes on the goal, it's actually pretty easy!

Have you managed to get in the tunnel yet? You should be able to fly there now. You can probably get back into AFF now too -- check with your drop zone. I was about your weight when I did my AFF 1 in July. They just slapped me on a 300 square foot canopy and it worked just fine. The tunnel's a pretty decent workout, too.

I noticed I'm starting to see muscles on me. If I keep this up, I might actually consider myself... fit... at some point. That's actually a bit of a surprising thought for me...

It really is pretty simple, figure out how many calories you should be intaking for your goals and have the dedication and determination to count every calorie that goes into your body. The only way Scooby's stuff doesn't work is if you don't.

Though new to this sport I am not new to cutting a few lbs.
4 years ago I was 240, now 185. Been sub 200 for almost 2 years now. Honestly the only thing I did was change my eating habits and get a little more active. Nothing extreme mind you. For me it was more of a mental change. Changing the way my brain was programmed and sticking to it. Looks like you are well on your way!!!! Good job man and remember, keep your eye on the prize!!!

Still focused, working out, and eating right but I stopped weighing myself for November and instead I'm growing a sick mustache.

I got really frustrated when I weighed myself and gained a couple pounds because I was pushing myself so hard during my strength training. I didn't gain any fat and lost another inch on my waist but the lbs bothered me.

Instead of being upset about it I'm just not going to weight myself for a while and focus on other things.

I will be where I want to be before next season.

Fuck fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Well since I was overly depressed because I tore something in my shoulder and haven't really been able to lift anything for over a month, almost got fired from my job so coulnd't spend any time working out at the only gym I can, and ate like an asshole for the past month because I was depressed about the whole thing I gained a ton of weight.

I worked out for 40 min today and am watching what I eat again but I got tunnel time for Christmas and don't feel like I deserve to use it yet.

So like I said above fuck fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

At least my wife agreed to have me leave for work an hour early so I can at least get an hour of cardio in until my Dr. apt on the 1/7 to get my shoulder checked out and find out if I need surgery.

I hope I don't need surgery. Mad

You can do it. Two and a half years ago I was in the same place as you; 285lbs, no physical fitness to speak of, not watching diet at all. Finally had a 'moment of clarity' and decided to lose the weight. Averaged about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds a week over two years. There were times the weight wouldn't come off at all. Then there were weeks it would melt away. Just remember to stick with it and you WILL be rewarded in the long term.

Now that you've realized that you are an emotional eater, pay attention to the triggers that make you start eating and try to stop them cold. When you find yourself with your hand in that bag of chips (or whatever your guilty pleasure is), stop and ask yourself if you are actually hungry or if something else is going on. If you're not hungry, spit it out!

Good luck on reaching your goal. It's not like you can go without food, you just have to learn to manage it. (I'm proud to have lost 65 pounds, but I know it's a struggle!)

All of us trying to fight the weight battle have times like this! The key is not to beat ourselves up, but take it as a time to be kind while strengthening our resolve. I have 2 8X10 photos of my tandem's by my bed. On days I am not motivated I look at them, get my ass out of bed and hit the Y. PM message me if you need surgery, I may be able to offer something to help.

Nice thread man, congrats on the goal! If I can throw in my .02c on your frustrations with the weight loss plateau. I am sure others have mentioned that it is pretty normal to hit and even more so with a lot of strength training, since you are converting the fat to muscle, which is more dense.

Cardio and a disciplined diet are the answer.

I love swimming personally for my cardio, I couldn't swim one end of the pool to the other 2 years ago, got a few lessons and now a nice 1.5 mile swim takes about an hour and you get some great cardio full body work along with it. You also get to work on core synergy and coordinating multiple muscle groups, all of which I "hope" will help (us) in skydiving.

Anyways dont give up the dream you have it in sight already!

Nice thread man, congrats on the goal! If I can throw in my .02c on your frustrations with the weight loss plateau. I am sure others have mentioned that it is pretty normal to hit and even more so with a lot of strength training, since you are converting the fat to muscle, which is more dense.

Thank you very much! I wish my gym had a pool. BUT my gym is free so I can't complain. I am definitely back in the game which is good but gaining a bunch of weight back definitely was 3 steps back instead of a step forward. I am so close though and the season is fast aproaching! Can't wait for Safety day!!!

255lbs as of today!

I started at 275 in August, lost 30 lbs in 110 days (245lbs), gained back 20 lbs between thanksgiving and christmas (265 lbs), and just lost 10 of those 20 I gained back in less than a week!

Phew that was a rough week but I ran a steady mile at 5.5 mph today and it felt good so I feel like I'm truly back in the game.

The tunnel time is so close I can feel it. Laugh

It has been a while. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I went to my Doc last night, weigh 252 now, and got an appointment with an ortho for my shoulder!

Almost fixed and back to where I was before Thanksgiving!

Feels good to be back on track.

Keep it up Dan. The difficult time of year has passed and now its spring, summer and then skydiving !

Once you get back in the air your motivation will rocket and so will the weight loss.

Blue skies.

I completely agree and thank you! However I got my first shin spints running today so I will have to stick to the eliptical for a bit until they heal up. HELLLOOOOOO ICE.

Yeah it is!!!

So yeah... I was sitting at work last night (I work for Comcast Business Class) and who happens to call into my phone? DAVE DEWOLF! I was like a kid talking to their hero! I fell horrible that I couldn't help him out but it was wicked cool chatting with him. I've always wanted to take his rigging course and rigging is what I've wanted to do in the sport besides skydiving of course.

3 days later the cortisone shot I got is turning my life around. My shoulder feels so much better. a few more days and I can start focusing on the gym again.

Finally. I didn't think my shoulder would ever stop hurting and I was going to have to live with this pain day to day.

I should be ok in about a week. It was a small procedure.

HOWEVER... I don't want to get into the tunnel until I'm under 240. I have 4 minutes that I got for christmas that I'm holding onto.

I'm using it as a personal goal.

Well I'm back down to 244! My shoulder pain is back but it's not too bad so I don't think I will go back for Cortisone yet. (unless it gets worse)

they switched my phone times at work which blows since I used to go to the gym during my off phone time and now don't really have time at all.

At least I have been eating correctly.

I should be under 240 by the begining of April and under 230 by May!!

My wife an I moved into a new house so my AFF was out of the question this year due to funds but I was able to get a tandem in!!!! Felt incredible! Pulled, piloted my canopy, and while I was at the door of the plane it was as if I jumped the day before not 7 years ago!!! Going back for a couple more tandems at the end of august and will start my AFF at the beginning of next season! Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement!!!

Anytime buddy! If I didn't just get a new house in July than I would be a regular licensed skydiver by now as well but until next season I'm just glad to help! lol Wink

I have to say that it felt so much different this time.

After the first tandem and my Cat A and Cat B in 2006 I was amped and couldn't sleep for like a week after each jump. Today I feel more relaxed than I have in years. I think about the jump yesterday and my body makes me take a huge breath and I feel more and more relaxed.

Definitely an awesome feeling and I can't wait until I start my AFF again.

Wasn't resurrecting this thread for no reason...

Started working at my local DZ packing tandems this season! Oh and yeah.... I passed my Cat A on 6/8/2014 and my Cat B on 6/14/2014 with only a couple things to work on which I did correct! I truly can't wait to go again and only wish I had more money and more time to jump more but I'm sure that's everyone's wish here!

I got some fantastic video of my Cat A which can be found in the link below and the camera was having issues for my Cat B which happens so yeah that one was just for me and my incredible instructors!! I can't wait for my C1 and C2!!! I'm 2 steps closer to my A License!

The attachment is my fat ass geared up for my Cat A. (not as fat as I was but still have a lot of work to go before I will run around naked in daylight. hahahaha

Here is the exit from my first high solo. It was an awesome jump. I hadn't left the plane at 10,000 so I decided to just hover and pay attention heading control. Plus Andy (who I had neverbefore and met on the plane on the way up to altitude on this jump) left right after me and told me on the way up that he was going to do a solo as well but would stay far enough away so that I could enjoy my solo and to look for him off in the distance because I would see him. It was incredible. I was at 8,000 just looking off into the distance with the sun in front of me off to the right about 30 degrees or so and right in front of me about 300-400 feet off maybe more he comes down in a head down track. It was an amazing visual. It really made the skydive special. If someone was with me with a camera it would have been a beautiful picture. He was almost just a shadow because the sun was almost behind him.
http://vimeo.com/dandaninc/highsolo

I've made a few more jumps as well. I have passed my G1 & G2 as well. They didn't have video as I was jumping with a friend and rigger at my DZ who didn't jump video but hot damn were they awesome!!!! They were both almost flawless. My G2 was especially incredible. I did a rear diving (bomber) exit and we docked right at the bottom of the hill. We were together the entire skydive. It was the skydive where he would go up and I would need to get big and then dock and then he would drop. When he went down I chuckled to myself for a half second because I had never thought I would need to "get small" since I am such a big guy. I was always really good at getting big but for that brief second I was stumped. I didn't go over how to get small because I didn't even think I would ever need to. It was awesome. I got down to him immediatly and docked again. We pulled off 4 solid docs and then broke off at 6,000. I had a beautiful track and really felt it in my calves this time. I wanted to make sure I had a solid perfect track because my friend was on his second go around for his F2 and I wanted to do it for him. He nailed his F2 and I attached a picture of us after this jump. I am the guy on the left and he is the guy on the right.

The other picture is from my F2 (tracking) with Ty. It was awesome feeling like superman. :)

I might not finish this season due to $ and weather but there is always next season and I will know that I am on my way to getting my A! I am no longer concerned with the license. Every time I leave the aircraft it's amazing and I don't need a license to love being in the door of the plane.

CHEERS DROPZONE.COM! SKYDIVING IS AMAZING!!!!!!!
