Leap for Lupus Boogie 2008
Can't Post
Tim Weible wrote the following to tell everyone all about the LFL Boogie this year. I think it pretty much sums it up so far. Feel free to PM me with any questions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kapowsin Air Sports and The Leap For Lupus Foundation are combining efforts to give the Northwest Region a Boogie and Records weekend to remember. Call it the Relocation Boogie, call it the Northwest's version of the Convention Boogie, call it whatever you want, but be sure to put it on your things to do this summer. It is going to be very cool and tons of fun.
All contact info will be in one place at the bottom of this.
First, what is Lupus? It is an auto immune system disorder. It affects mostly females, particularly during the child bearing years, and it stays with the individual their entire life. The Leap For Lupus Foundation is a 501-C non-profit organization. It was founded by skydivers. Valinda Mitchell, President, lives with Lupus every day. You might have bought one of her jumpsuits that she custom makes for jumpers. She is a current jumper. Her husband, John, is a Tandemaster, AFF/I, and SL/I, Air Traffic Controller in Seattle, is on the Foundation board, and a record holder. As a matter of fact, that's how they met - he was her skydiving instructor. Billy and Lysa Adams are the secretary and treasurer. Billy is Ex-Special Forces, and they both have lots of jumps.
WHEN: The 2008 Leap For Lupus Boogie and POPS Record will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 9th & 10th, the second weekend in August 2008.
WHERE: Kapowsin Air Sports in Shelton, Washington. The Farrington's have relocated their entire organization to the Shelton Airport. Take I-5 to exit #104 which is Hwy #101. Go North on Hwy #101 for about 20 minutes, past the Shelton exits and the airport will be on the left hand side of the road on the North end of town. There you will find a real treat for ya. A BRAND NEW 100' x 100' hanger with all the creature amenities, a 5,000 ft. runway, and a 45 year lease. We have indoor packing, two stories of team/debrief/training rooms, a video and music download room, riggers loft, showers, camping, restaurant, and free puppies. Fly-ins are welcome with the tie down area next to the hanger and fuel is available on the airport. If ya get an itch to hit the night life there is a huge casino, buffet and hotel just seven miles away. Olympia is only twenty minutes away for a plethora of hotels and restaurants. There is also a new HUGE family indoor water park with a buffet and hotel forty minutes away in Grand Mound.
AIRCRAFT FLEET: Super Otter, Grand Caravan, Helicopter, Stearman, Citabria (Airbatic spelled backwards), Starduster, C-182, and we're workin' on more. Told ya it was a Northwest Convention.
BOOGIE PACKET: We will be working on more goodies every week. We know there will be all the usual stuff like dinner Saturday night, t-shirts, etc. All the updates will be on the K-Pow and Leap For Lupus Foundation websites as we get closer. MORE TO COME!!!!!!
RECORDS: POPS NORTHWEST RECORD: We are making plans for at least a 39-way, six-way base, three zippers, 4-way lines, and whackers off of those. Otter and caravan for sure so far. Myself, Tim Weible, will be organizing it. I have asked Corey Parker to Captain the trail plane and take charge of the diver sector, and bring a load up from the southern part of our conference. He already has half a plane load committed to the event. We are going to have practice/tryout days, both here at Shelton and at Skydive Oregon, in Mollalla, (SDO). Once the candidate demonstrates his/her skills and proficiency, they will be assigned a slot. Once payment is received you are on the dive. All registration and money issues, current and upcoming information and changes, will be ran through the Kapowsin Air Sports website. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, the answer is in one place - the KAS website. We will try to put as much info as we can on the Leap for Lupus website also. Some participants are using this venue to get on the list for the POPS World Freefall Record 120-way that Carey Peck is organizing in Perris, CA, in October. Participation in one of the five state POPS Records that are being held all across the United States and Canada is a prerequisite to get on The POPS World Freefall Record. Check www.bigways.com, or www.texasstaterecord.com for other state locations.
DATES FOR PRACTICE/TRYOUT DAYS: Kapowsin - Contact Tim Weible for Northern Sector info - all Sundays - start times are 09:00 hrs. sharp - second and fourth Sundays in June - 8th & 22nd, second and fourth Sundays in July - 13th & 27th, and the Sunday before the record August 3rd.
SDO - Contact Corey Parker for the Southern Sector info - all Sundays - start times are 11:00 hrs. sharp, May 18th, June 8th, July 20th, Sunday before the record August 3rd.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: Of course all of the usual DZ stuff: Tandems, students, jumper groups of any size and skill level, organizers for every discipline.
CONTACTS: 1. Kapowsin Air Sports - www.skydivekapowsin.com, 360-432-8000. 2. The Leap For Lupus Foundation - President Valinda Mitchell, valinda@leapforlupus.org, or vskydiver@gmail.com. Treasurer Lysa Adams, lysa@leapforlupus.org, Secretary Billy Adams, billa@rotorway.com, or bill@leapforlupus.org. 3. POPS Northwest Freefall Record - Organizer - Tim Weible - timskydivenwest@localaccess.com. Southern Sector Captain - Corey Parker - corey.parker@comcast.net. 4. Freefly Record - Lysa Adams - lysa@leapforlupus.org.
This is going to be a phenomenal weekend. Slots are going to go fast, so please let us know early so we can plan and manage what we need to do for you and yours to come and play and be part of history. There are only so many slots available. Procrastination will leave you a spectator. We are very much looking forward to hearing from you.
Blue skies and see ya there, The 2008 Northwest Boogie Committee.

Hi Chaos,
The raffle is going to be awesome. Thank you so much for your donation, and spread the word with your homies on the raffle. You don't have to be present to win. In fact, last year, a Wings 1/2 coupon was won out of state by someone who bought a ticket on the website.

Well, last year the weather didn't really cooperate for anyone to get on the jump. This year it's going to be sunny though! So come out for the practice jumps! I know someone that can get you on the loads!

I am getting REALLY excited about this boogie. In just the past week or so I've heard about a bunch of folks from California who have committed to come up to Kapowsin to play with us for the boogie for the POPS record, for freeflying, for RW, for wingsuiting, thus proving to me that it's true, commercial aircraft DO go both ways!!!!!
C'mon, now, east coasters and midwesterners, it's time for you to step up, too! Start checking those airline schedules and booking your flights - there's nowhere more beautiful in August than the Pacific Northwest. While your half of the country is sweltering and humid, we'll be dry and sunny with gorgeous views of (still) snow-capped mountains.
There's camping right next to the dropzone at the Mason County Fairgrounds for a small fee, with hot showers available. Hotels are just a mile away in the town of Shelton. Lots of info on Kapowsin's web site.
Sponsors are lining up to support the fundraising side of the boogie (and those that aren't lining up just don't know about the boogie yet, so they're getting bugged by me very soon if they haven't been already). Here's the list of cool stuff we have for the fundraising raffle already:
You don't have to attend the boogie to participate in the raffle* or to donate, but it will be a lot more fun if you do!!!
*The web site will be updated shortly to reflect all of the prizes available. Purchasing a raffle ticket enters you into the drawing for all major prizes - you need not be present to win.

New sponsor just added to the raffle:
**100% off the retail price of a SkySystems Helmet (excluding camera helmets) donated by SkySystems USA.
All of the raffle prizes listed above will be available to anyone who buys a raffle ticket online or in person, so please, even if you can't make the boogie, buy a raffle ticket to support the cause!!
And if you can make it to the boogie, you have a chance to win all of these great prizes, plus a lot of fantastic smaller prizes as well.

I'm going to be at Kapowsin this weekend. Will there be someone there to sell me a ticket or two? I will be back in August too and probably buy a few more then.

If you are looking to try your first wingsuit or demo'ing a different suit, Phoenix-Fly will have demo suits available at Leap for Lupus on Saturday and Sunday. First Flight Courses(FFC) will be offered for those wanting to see what it's like to get your flock on. I will be organizing flocks as time allows.
Come out and have some fun while supporting a great cause.

There should be plenty of time to flock even if you are on the POPS loads. I'm hoping that the POPS record attempt will be completed by (early) Saturday.
Make sure you get your raffle tickets. I just received two blue flame Aviator Helmets in the mail from Square 1 to add to the long list of prize you could win! Check it out. http://www.leapforlupus.org/raffle.html

There are many places to stay with skydivers that last night if you can't get a hotel room. Plus we just called a motel in Selton city center and they have several rooms left. I'll PM you with that info.

What's the camping situation? Are there showers available? Is it close enough to the hanger to set up your camping gear and leave it unattended?

Check the accommodations page on Kapowsin's web site http://www.skydivekapowsin.com/accommodations.php They do have a shower at the DZ upstairs too. And free wi fi! The camping is not too far away but they can't have you camping right at the DZ because it's an airport.

Woohoo, Amazon and Super-Barbie are coming!
Friends~ Is there anyone who would be able to give me a ride from the Seattle airport to the Casino hotel on Friday at around 3 or 4 pm?
I hurt my back two days ago and am in lots of pain, so I may not be driving out there, anymore. I might get a one-way plane ticket from LAX to Seattle(arrive either 3:05 or 4:05, depending). Then, I'm thinking of either renting a car or getting a ride or flight back down to San Francisco on Monday, before going back home to SoCal. Thank you...for any help offered!

Hope the weather is better over there than it is over here.
-I can't jump, so don't expect to see me with gear -unless someone is short a helmet or alti or something. If that's the case, call me on my cell and I'll bring my extras...(NWFlyer & Valinda have my #). I don't have a complete rig any more or I'd bring that. I just have the Icon with no canopies.
Come to think of it, I was gonna let Roo try on my harness...ok I'll bring it if I can find all of the pieces.

Yep, I did my 100th thanks to NWFlyer and Monkycndo. The weather was, well, what can you say, it's the Pacific Northwest, so we did a three way from about 7200 feet. And wow did they catch me off guard afterwards. I was watching for the POPS formation load to appear when suddenly several pies appeared from behind. From what I hear there are pics and video. I had a great time and a memorable 100th jump. Thanks guys for making my day. (No PMS jump - it pretty much rained all day Saturday, so another time)

I was happy to be there and see you all. Little Jaleesa got to see one group of jumpers (the tandems) before we got drenched, so she was happy.
That clip was great except my part in it. I sound like a looser, whiner I think. I'm a bit embarrassed. I don't do well in front of the camera. I was really really nervous you can almost see me shaking with fear in the clip. John looked really cute though didn't he?! He's so amazing!
The event went really well. We're still getting funds in so we don't have a total yet but suffice it to say we did GREAT! Thanks to everyone who supported us!! I feel so lucky to have such wonderful people around me!
