Hi Jason We average 15 LO's a year, Not sure what you mean by that? SF has always had LO from all over including locals, and when it comes to being "ran" as well, that falls in mine and the DZO's hands. With out getting into it Ill just say that my energy, passion and design have not been compromised since day one, I cant speak for others.

Formations are Wed Thur and Fri. Only 4 loads per day. We have created a schedule for them. Come Sat and Sun they play with the us. This should make for some great Skydives for those that want the 50 ways. This should also give us plenty of ladies for the Pink Patch and State Record. Maybe I will finally get my pink patch!!

It's not a Texas Boogie, it's a boogie primarily focused on helping those with less than a couple of hundred jumps achieve their SCR/S and have fun. It's supposed to be the one weekend attitudes and egos are left at the front door and the experienced skydivers help the others in many ways. The load organizers were primarily the same core group, whether out of state or not. You got any beefs with how it was run, the levels of performance, etc., Feel free to take it up with J offline and not steal the energy with negativity.

If i remember right that was because he was trying to make up for the difficulties of no electricity, lights, or PA system that was not supplied as promised.
He helped make that auction survive with nothing, and saved SkyFest. Which was a hell of a lot more than I can say for others.

There WILL be a Poker Tournament (Officially Sanctioned BY Skyfest and All!!). I will try to get Pokerstars to Sponsor it as they have done for several of the past Dublin Boogies. They are pretty good as sending Bonus Swag for the players. Also we will have to make sure that we keep it legal so it may end up a Charity Tournament.

It was hot, that's for sure. Three days of that will take a lot out of you. I was worn slap out when I got home. It was worth it though. I had a blast.
I actually left and drove 45 minutes to the house, changed clothes and took a shower. I didn't want to stink anymore than I had to.
James and the rest of the crew manage to pull off so much without a hitch all year long. That was a minor setback. We could still jump and pack. Whatta we care. It was so hot, standing in the hangar didn't really help anyway.
What kind of skydiver complains about heat or electricity, when they get to drink beer after the last load anyway. Then Dale serves up kick ass chicken and mexican.
Ok, now I'm getting pissed off cause I won't get to stay. Damn!

We drove down from Wisconsin and Illinois, so the lack of electricity was not a problem for us. I did feel sorry for Packin'Cathys kids who were still packing at 10 PM with no electricity, just the lights from cars to help them. Man that was a hot day. Kept the plane running tho, I think it was 42 loads that day.

It was an unusually hot weekend for that early in the summer, and though the hangar isn't air conditioned, it just felt hotter knowing you couldn't turn on a light......we've had the power company come out to do a study so we can avoid that this year.....I remember calling loads at the top of my lungs....that was fun, but it worked out and everyone had a good time.....

I was thinking about that yesterday. I figured they had to have made at least fifteen hundred dollars that weekend. They were machines, packing non stop. Impressive.

BUT ...I have top say how cool would that to be.. to be able to get to fly with her.
I have been under canopy and sprialled around following hawks before. And we have friggin eagles at our DZ up on the Skagit River Delta.. that have chased our collapsed pilot chutes behind the canopy on moe than one occasion
I am really hoping one does not do anything to the canopy if it does catch the pilot chute

The 100 way is BJ Worth and Roger Ponce, sign up for that is on Skydive Carolina. Its not a SF "event" per say. I just put the schedule up so the times can be seen by all. The womens record (24 way currently i believe) will have an organizer. Just waiting on an email from her. when the 100 ways break up on Saturday our thoughts are that we will have the ladies for the pink patch 20 ways and those also become practice jumps for the Womens record.
I have to be honest., this is going to depend greatly on jumpers working the schedule with us. Which is part of what makes SF so unique but this years has a few new challenges. Especially with us becoming an official World Cup Event for Speed Skydiving.

I agree Jason. One of the iconic boogies of the U.S. not to say Texas itself. I bet daddy Jerry would be very proud that his name lives on in a state other than Texas. I have been present at every Skyfest except for last year because of prior arrangements with my daughters. It makes me sad that I can't make it to the biggest Texas boogie again.

okokokokokok Actually I sent James a PM requesting updated info. He is usually on top of things so I expect an answer today. He has had his hands full with a lot of things so I am sure he is knocking things off his list. Last I heard the power company was sending a report and necessary work to be done.
We are still working on a backup plan with generators. I have reached out to a couple of people, does anyone know how to invite the Army or military to bring one of those massive generators, they can set up a recruiting booth in exchange.
So to sum it up, no, no word yet.
What/Whos next?

For anyone near me (Thomasville which is just North of Tallahassee) I'll be flying up on the 3rd and coming back the 7th or 8th depending on the weather. Approx 3 hrs flight. Buy me some pack job and a beer and we'll call it even.

Like Spence says. Some helpful hints: do some bigger group skydives before June. Starting with a 2-way, focus on having the other jumper simply lay a base, a target, for you to dive on. Make sure he simply stays in place and doesn't chase you. If he's chasing you, he's not giving you the oppotunity to learn what you need. If you can dock on him, you can dock on a 3-way, then a 4-way, etc.
One reason why you would want to get progressively larger and larger is that you will find that the formation tends to slow down a little as it gets bigger and bigger.
Another reason is that at breakoff, you will find that your tracking lane gets more and more narrow as the formation gets bigger and bigger. Focus on tracking. Focus on flat-tracking. Focus on a straight line and go for as much distance as you can get. Once you can track a straight line with distance, you will be better prepared to try bigger formations.
Focus on continuously flying your body after you dock. Simply grabbing a grip and hanging on is bad....very bad. Take a grip and CONTINUE to fly your body. Try this: take a grip with your finger tips only. Fly your body to maintain a finger-grip only...if you have to grab a handfull of material, your not flying, you're hanging on.
Unfortunately, in FS, there is a lot of grabbing going on...mostly because the guy taking a grip on YOU is not flying his body and pulling/pushing you around...the good flyers are able to counter-act that and minimize the impact of it on the rest of the formation.
There is more to learn. This is just the basics.

Hey Everyone!!
We have officially opened up the SkyFest registration online. By registering early you guarantee your self one of the famous SF T shirts and save time upon your arrival at the event.
I have no idea how many T's to produce, we have the 100 ways, R Brothers who are good for a couple of hundred, and SF that has averaged 300 lately. So whats the guess?? Right now I am ordering 400 Total, 100 of them go to the 100 ways. If we run out we will have order forms to those who miss out.
So help us out and register early, maybe we can get a better idea before the event?

last I heard jumps were to be at 23.00 which is lower than their normal price. But then again fuel just went up .90 in that area so who knows? I do believe James is attempting to lock in the 23.00 for the event.

Not sure what you mean by "preferred discipline?? I dont have any, unless something on the site comes across that way, but......
You may have seen the list of Skydiving Schedules that we post. That is one of the secrets to SF success, many of our Specialty Skydives such as SCR, Pink Patch, State Records ect... are on a tight schedule. Our LO's are obligated to stick to those.
Many reasons we do that which I wont get into here.
But please let me know if there is something that I have missed. And yes there will be plenty of WS fliers attendinig, including at least 2 Mfrs confirmed.

geeez, there was a reason the paypal button doesnt show until the survey is complete.
No, its all good!! Just make sure you note that on the check or attach a note. Also you may get hounded to fill out the survey again because it has been seperated from the system we put in place.
But no worries, it will all work out.

OK guys, I didn't hear too much website advice any of those other times I've been down to The Farm. That's right, I know who you are and you didn't know it was me that was doing www.SkyFestBoogie.com.
The whole story is that this is a CMS that allows the website to be able to grow. It's also set up so that J can make updates when he needs to and doesn't have to rely on someone elses time scale. It works pretty damn well and offers a lot.
I know there's other solutions out there, but if you aren't going to be on call and on the phone with J for an hour or two a night trying to figure out what he wants, be careful about offering up your website help!

What??!!!!! I figured out what I wanted? Nope wasn't me, had to be an impostor
Hey everyone, I am very happy with the site and what it can do. Ben has busted his ass on this thing and he and I have many cell hours invested.
I realize there are always other ways to do things or how it can be done. We knew that however we laid it out, something or someone could and would buck with the system. Not a big deal, it will all work out iin the end.. I am just happy to have that damn survey in a system that I don't have to manually enter the data into excel like I have for the last 7 years.....
So just go to the site fill it out and pay
I guess I figured that when skydivers see the word registration they automatically think money.
All is well and again thanks to all for your support.

I looked for instructions before I started the questionnaire as to how the payment was going to work (can I send in a check? Will it be PayPal?) before I started. But finding none, I proceeded with the questionnaire and figured it would tell me after how to pay. Sooooooo........maybe just add line or two at the top of the registration page stating that after you finish the questionnaire you'll be required to pay via PayPal? And give the option of mailing in your registration to the DZ (if you want to make that a publicly available option and not just a special option for me )? Just my $0.02 on how to avoid headaches like me and Micalicious messing with your system.

Paypal does accept checks, already have a payment accepted from them. Paypal does not realease the funds until the check has cleared on their side first. So they send a message that if they are buying a product not to ship until the funds are recieved in the sellers account. Checks are fine with me, we will just have to adjust our cutoff date when we turn it off because they take longer to clear. Dont want jumpers held back at the event because of electronic transfers.

J - any update on the power. Decisions need to be based on this. And my decision will impact the decisions of others.
I keep wanting to ask why you need to know 8 weeks before the event, does the trailer need a head start. But then I realize I had to be concerned about things like that when I was traveling for dz to dz for 6 months straight. Plus I figure you may have people staying with you.
Ok, I discussed that with James last week and they finally got an answer from the electricians. If I have it right they are splitting the dz thus getting a second transformer. So the "lack" of electricity to items already in place should not be an issue.
But they cannot guarantee they will have additional rv slots ready by then. Not to fear, he has already contacted multiple business to rent as many generators as possible if the lines are not completed. Our thoughts were that we should be able to just pass the cost over to the users. That is all based on the fact that it works out to about 15.00 a day.
I expect an answer mid to late next week. Please understand that our to do list have trippled in just a matter of days. And it wont stop until after the event uggh.
But, I have something up my sleeve as well so drop me a PM and I will share it with you... Also dont forget that the info for nearby RV slots are on this site.

Yes, oh yes there with be 12 port a johns added (serviced daily) , and a very expensive shower trailer brought in. And hey it only cost you one scrubbing of the back, oh wait maybe thats the bottom in your case.... Ok I better stop.
Seriously, these are nice clean showers and we are not charging some entrance shower fee as we have all heard of in the past. Now getting out might cost you

You are correct in that I have several people asking if they can stay in my camper. And, if I do decide to find a campground or stay at the State Park, I'd like some time to look around. If I stay off the dz, the list of camper mates will change, I'm sure.
I understand that you have a large to do list, but this shouldn't be anything new to you. You're an old pro at making this boogie work and pleasing everyone who wants to attend, right?

How safe is keeping possessions in tents at boogies? This will be my first and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to keep my camera and cell phone and pdas and all that good stuff in my car rather then leaving it in my tent the whole time. Any input? Thanks!

If it's not on your person, lock it in your car when you're not in your tent. Skydivers are generally pretty trustworthy, but shit does happen and if you've got a car to lock stuff in, you might as well use it. Same goes for your gear at night - lock it up in your car. Don't leave it in the hangar ... there'll be parties going on in there, and stupidity happens.
Also, I have no idea if Chester has this problem, but some boogies have had problems with locals (teenagers especially) who get wind of a big party and show up to cause trouble and who have been known to take stuff from tents. So even if you trust those within our community, don't assume that the only people around will be from within our community.

Shaggio is right but I'd still lock up anything valuable, there will be non-skydiving vendors(food, etc.), news crews, and I'd suspect after a couple days non-jumpers

?????? ok maybe I missed it and I am not going through pages of replies to find it. There is a due date to prepay to manifest for special jumps???? If this is so, can someone update the goings on? Edited because I was not in the "know" I am now! LOL Ok I just talked to James, yes he would like a prepayment. You will be able to sign up after the 4th and at the event. He is going to post the mailing address on the front page of the sign up page for you. He will mail your tickets to you..

After working it out with the boogie organizers, they've agreed to allow us to come up and crash the party.
I am... 1) doing this for sake of skyfest and freeflying, 2) giving away (3) coached freefly jumps for free in the drawing, 3) providing free Load Organizing all with video and debriefs, 4) running a freefly Safety Seminar, Friday at 10AM, 5) leading sunset tracking dives every night, 6) going to be there from June 1 until the end of the parties, 7) and offering discounted coach jumps at $20 (price includes a pack job) plus slot, 8) requesting that you email vertifly@gmail.com to reserve coaching or to get on the roster for organizing. 9) here to let you know that ALL levels are welcome cause we are trying to push this sport. 10) and going to also offer still camera shots on some loads and upon request.

Hey everyone there is a new page on the SkyFest website called Latest Updates!! Keep an eye on it, I am trying to keep up with it almost daily. Many things will happen between now and THE DAY!! Dave I have your post on there now. Also folks; I ask you to take some time and explore the Skydiving Schedule, I know I know what does that mean; a schedule for skydives?. Well for those who have been they know. One of SkyFest secrets to its success and safety record is the schedule. I know, how does a schedule play a part in safety? Well go read it. Is anyone leaving Atlanta late Thursday evening or first thing Friday morning? I can ride (ie your car) there with someone to split gas, (It will be just me and no equipment other that what I need for a 3-4 hour ride) but coming back with Mic and the camper. As a last resort I will drive but I would prefer not to.

We have added a Latest Update page on the site, go check it out, and the items in the gear auction, this is the best ever!! There must be something in the air in the S. E. people keep offering up some great items.

I had to give james a hard time on that one. Actually the way it will work is the 22 people must be A licensed for slots donated by this individual, they dont have to be on the same load, you just have to be a newbie to get the tickets.
But, I like the idea of an all student load (except for a spotter and exit assistance). Might be cool to feel the anxiety of 21 newbies in one airplane. Bet you could feel it just like when you complete a 100 way or something.

No the fuel prices have already bumped them up, they will still be cheaper than their regular price, atleast that is the plan for now. I believe the last price i got was 24.00

James - that is great, as a loyal staff member I'll buy a slot and use my A-5643 to go and have fun
And Women's State Record sounds pretty good too. Not sure I'm ready for 100 ways, and not sure I could get that much time off work.
