OK kids it’s finally here. The official thread for the 2006 Atlanta Freeflight Festival!! PLEASE TAKE NOTE: It’s pushed back 1 week this year due to Nationals. Please pass this word on.
Thursday, November 2 – Sunday, November 6 Registration is $32 advance, $35 at the event. Last year we had well over 300 registered. Wuffo registration is $20 and includes dinner and booze Saturday night.
No other event anywhere gives you so much value. Here’s the lineup: Aircraft: Super Skyvan, Super Otter, Super King Air, Helicopter, and Caravan if we need it. Organizing: Freefly organizing with world record holder and VRW pioneer Eric Deren Belly Organizing with Scotty Carbone Chris Spence and the Roaming DZ Manufacturers: Sunpath, Performance Designs, Alti-2, Hiper USA Extra’s: Food by the Carbone Zone Skydive Radio Podcasting “Live” Nightly skydive videos on the 25 foot projector screen
Thursday: Super King Air flying all day
Thursday night: Poker tourney hosted by the boys from Skydive Radio Free pizza included with registration
Friday: Super Otter and Super King Air flying all day VRW scrambles and camp Carbone Zone cookin up the eats
Friday night: –TBA
Saturday: Loads start at 8 a.m. with 2 for 1 lift tickets on the Super King Air till 9:30 a.m. World class organizing
Saturday night: Dinner included with registration Free Beer- 8 kegs worth, an open bar while supplies last Live band till 9 p.m. The legendary Costume Party with kick ass prizes.
1st place: % off certificate for gear, 1 pair of Gatorz sunglasses, 1 person jumps all day Sunday free 2nd place: Alti-2 Neptune, Skydive Atlanta T-shirts 3rd place: Go Fast prize pack- 1 case energy drink, Go fast T-shirt, boogie T-shirt
15 ft brass dancing pole DJ’s Eric Deren, Joden, and Anthony G Lights and Lasers Psychic, Magician/firebreather, Spanish Web aerial performance Live walking treemen in the enchanted forest The Gravitron full size carnival ride. Many other surprises you will have to see to believe! This will be the most epic party you have ever attended in your life, we guarantee.
Pre-register at www.freeflightfestival.com . There you will also find a list of local hotels that will give a skydiver discount.
Notes on camping: The airport has a small charge to camp, $10 for tents, $21 for RV’s. That is for the entire event. RV slot’s at the hangar are first come first serve and include 20 amp service. The area behind the fuel farm will be set-up for additional RV slots and tents with 20 amp service as well.
Our goal is over 400 registered. We need your help to make it happen. Remember, no other skydive party even comes close!

this will be my 4th one to attend and i know i is gonna be amazing.... even better than last year and the years before. Trey has this plan to out do the halloween party from last year. he has gotten all the sda kids imput and his own and use it all!!! its gonna be epic. i would start training for it now.

I won't be able to be there during the day on Saturday (actually NOT because of work this time), but I wouldn't miss the party for ANYTHING! (And of course, the mandatory "sleep it off on the DZ floor or couch day", also known as Sunday.)

cool!!! I plan on taking friday off and being there by noon. Looking to get in on some larger RW stuff with spence and scotty. You need to get down on that.

I don't think I can make it this year. I need to save money to take my daughter to NYC in Dec. I think I can only go to the Hog Flop since it's just down the road.
I just checked my schedule and they had me working that weekend... the gall of them. Just got that fixed so count me in for the carnage.
I have a unique idea for costume(s) this year. Let your "friends" pick your costume.
The rules for contestants: 1. Walk into a place to change with an empty bag. 2. Take off all your clothes and put them in the bag. 3. Hand that bag to someone who hands you a bag containing a costume you have no idea what it is. 4. Put on all the contents of the bag. 5. Come out and party all night in it (unless there are more costumes for a contestant, then after a set amount of time you change into the next repeating the process.)
Only 2 rules for the costumes: 1. At least the underwear portion must be clean. 2. Must not prevent the person from drinking.

I have yet to go out of state for anything related to skydiving yet but planned on doing so this year. It looks like this boogie might be fun. Can anyone tell me if there are any showers on the airport. I would most likely make a 20 hour drive since it would be cheaper then flying and would sleep in my car to save some money but only if I had access to a shower, if not I would just get a hotel room. Will all the planes been running through out the boogie? Also I am not sure if I will be able to drag anyone with me if I do decide to go so does anyone think I would be able to hook up with some freefliers while I am down there (I am of average skill)?

clean showers at the DZ ~there is one shower for the men and one for the women and one (maybe two) at the FBO. It can get a little crowded waiting for one.
plenty of camping area ~No doubt.
food at the DZ by the CARBONES ~yummie! Plus two pizza joints that deliver regular to the DZ for when Tammy wont cook you any pork loin.
pet frendly ~Please keep your pets under supervision and clean up after them.
costume party saturday night but if you are offended by scantly clad hot ladies enter at your own risk ~I love this part!
vendors will be there ~mmmmm... new toys...
it a really great boogie ~this boogie is one of the reasons I move to ATL. Seriously. ..

well the pre-boogie party would be Wed night correct? Then thursday night is the pre-party scrimmage, whick last year crippled a couple revelers. Friday night is all out pre-party madness, with Saturday becoming the epic adventure that puts the Festival into this boogie!

My RV is not a party wagon! Mostly b/c I know skydivers and its a rental with a LARGE security deposit. Other reasons being I have a few folks staying with me (and paying for it), so I gotta make sure they are somewhat allowed to sleep. But, Wed night. Im the only one in there!
On another note, Punk Ass Productions will debut is latest creation (video) at the boogie, with a select pre-screening on Wed or Thursday night. For those of you who didnt see last years video you missed out! Mind you my editing sucks as do my video skillz, but some how it tends to entertain. All video was shot at SDA throughout the last year, except for a little segment and you'll see why. content includes: just a little RW, some hybrid carnage, lots of freeflying, a wedding, bouncy jumpy things, "borrowing", and general mayhem. Returning this years episode is SDA's own Black Humper of Death!

Just pisses me off all those peeps having fun when some of us need to be in bed early. If your into getting to bed early then this is definately not the boogie for you.

Well since you put it that way... My flights are now booked. Arriving 5:30 Thursday, departing 6:30 Sunday (time to partially sleep off hangover). Are there hotels near this DZ or is tenting it the best option?

Dave, I would really suggest tenting it. If you want, I can bring you a Tent, Sleeping BAg and Air Mattress since I know what a Pain it is to travel with those things when flying.
Just let me know.
While there may actually be 2 or 3 sober people late at night to give the drunks (All 300+ of them) rides back to the hotels.. Their services may by in HIGH demand.

last year wyatt had 12 other naked girls with him on sda's king air (in the summer) that was a FUN jump; wouldnt classify it as funny.
if it were warmer, SDA is not a dropzone that you would have a problem finding people to get naked or get naked and jump but during the festival it will only be in the 60's during the mid day and thats on the ground. brrrr

THAT one I won't forget...pale ass, the glowstick and bicycle ride..I hope he's burned the black thongs by now

The year before was around 85 and 75 at night. Perfectly reasonable temps for women to skydive naked! In any case, the gas was turned on last Friday so we will have the ceiling mounted gas heaters in the hangar if needed for night time activities. I think Trey fell out of a tree on his head, everyone knows he dont have heaters in his office!
FYI: I burned the first copy of the video last night. Watched some of it here at work this morning cuz the damn thing took all damn night to transcode. I did find a spelling error on one of the videographer credits, and I dont know that I'll get that fixed before the boogie. The damn thing takes 5 hours to render and 9+ to transcode to DVD. Not counting the dual layer burning to DVD. Either way, we've got a 40 min, all SDA video review of 2006 to watch that weekend!

The rules for contestants: 1. Pick a random bag. 2. Put on all the contents of the bag somewhere on your body. Up to you if you take off any, some, or all of your other clothes. 3. Come out and party all night in it.

Just a lot going on with the transition. If I get everything settled by that weekend, I might reconsider.
the majority of people wont be able to drive by 30min after sundown Im sure. Even if you dont stay until the sum comes up on Sunday there will be plenty of party going on. it just the really good stuff didnt start happening until midnight last year.

no it doesnt hurt, but I'll not be doing one that weekend. Too cold, and that's that.
If you want to jump inflateables, I suggest you bring inflatables, then you'll need to have an experienced jumpmaster for that dive. It just a safety thing.

Delta has a bazillion flights a day in and out of ATL. The drive from ATL to Upson Co. Airport a.k.a Skydive Atlanta is about 1 hr 15 min depending on traffic and the driver.
Im sure some others will be passing through, but remember, some of us will be there Wedensday night, and once we get there we wont be leaving!

Try Air Tran first, they have really good rates if you purchase on the web site! Out of LGA round trip to ATL for $69 each way. Buffal, NY and Houston TX are $99 each way. $84 each way for Clevland, OH or Orlando, FL. $89 for Dallas, TX.

Costumes range from someone wearing a t-shirt that says "This is my costume" to themes, groups, etc. the ones that usually win are VERY well planned and displayed, or just have really hot chicks in them.
I'll tell ya I'm part of a group this year, but what it is I cant say.
Pretty much anything you can think of will be there, ans then some you didnt.

Ooooh! For all your intermediate freefliers out there check out this tidbit of info: There will be someone to organize intermediate flyers. Yup, so dont be afraid you'll be left out when you show up. Plus, many of us who call this DZ home do our best to welcome in the new jumpers who visit and help them meet and jump with peeps that will make their skydives fun and helpful!
Not that we dont have other excellent organizers for freeflying, and bellyflying, just though some of you would like to know.
the organizer(s) is yet to be dertermined but there are a few who are being considered. when the final decision is made an annoucement will come out.

Well, its not really a sign up kinda thing. When ya get there look up some of the regulars. You can send me a PM for the names. I (we) will try to point you in the right direction. Many of us try to put those who can learn from each other together and help them with their skills. We also try to organize dives (even though we are NOT organizers) for ourselvs that included those that are trying to learn.
Traditionally, an organizer at a boogie is responsible for building a dive that is safe, fun, challenging, etc for a group of jumpers. Intermediate freefliers are handled differently than RW fliers. Its not uncommon to find a jumper with 100-200 jumps that can be on a 6-8 way RW dive, where in a freefly 6 - 8+ way dive may have jumpers with 1000 or more jumps on it.
so you have one person that is responsible for helping 10, 2ways. Thats a tall order for one, two or even 3 people.

Ian has been working on a new skill only to be mastered by the greatest flyers. Flying sideways, feet first, 10 feet above the ground at 30 MPH. I saw him do it just the other weekend.

What are we training for?
OH, Grasshopper. If you have not yet begun your training you may fall victim to boogie burnout. One must find a steady pace, b/c to sprint out the gate at the sound of the starting gun will have you pray to Ralph on the big white phone by day two.Many train their entire lives to have the ability and endurance to attend a boogie such as this one.
You must also make ready other arrangements. I.C.E.: in case of emergency ~ this is like your wing man at a bar. this person is there to get you out of a jam (out of beer, lost your tent, lost your mind). Simply a must have. Sleep schedules: 2 hours maximum, from 4am to 6am., except saturday when we dont sleep. 2ndary accomodations: its a boogie, always have a back up plan.

since i have been told that the military bases are far away....i am guessing that there is a liquor store close by....i need to pick up my friends capt. and jack...they are waiting for me there. im sure beer games will be had...i suggest the beer olympics!

i dont know how i am going to get a pizza on an airplane...and one keep it warm..and two keep it from being eaten. i will think..that way at someone will get her pizza she is telling everyone about

Several people have asked me if i was coming back to this one this year.. and the answer was hell yeah if I can make it..
Unfortunately work is seriously getting in the way of my boogies from now till at least February.. so I won't be able to attend this BADASS boogie this year.. I did put in my request for time off for next year already though.. I'm going.. work or not.
