Arno,
Could you post a closer pic of your topmount setup? I have a similar (but inferior) setup shown here. I like how close you have your cameras together, looks like you have a special mount sort of similar to Wes Rich's T plates. I'd be curious to see how it works, I've also always wondered how you can mount the cameras so close together and still be able to access the camera screw?
EDIT: Added picture of myself to stay on thread topic. Picture taken by "Scary" Perry Trowbridge at last year's Keys Boogie, with my old (video only) setup. Watch the Keys Boogie video in my signature to see a cool video sequence from this shot, where Perry and I were staring at each other...

One of my friend (Sharky) made it out of titanium (3mm & 2mm), use a quick release at the bottom-helmet. But RebelXT and PC105 is mounted by hand screw. I can send u the drawing file for a template if you want.
Should i have chosen a better background ???

Can you remove the XT without removing the PC? Or do you have to remove PC to get to XT screw? That was my concern with my setup... if I put camera close together, the XT screw will be covered by DVcam.
I have GOT to learn to work with metal... I am an engineer and I design complex metal structures all the time, so I should be able to make my own stuff. But I have no access to machine shop, the one here at work is NOT a viable option for personal use, this is a secured military contractor.

Nice! What kind of lens is that? Just picked up a 14mm Sigma (non-fisheye). Afraid it might be too wide for tandems, but couldn't pass the deal up. Figured it would be cool for shots like the one you just took!

It looks much wider than that actually.. This is a photo I took with a 8mm Peleng lens.. The reason I say this is because of the edges of the frame, the 14mm won't do that.. and this is definately a circular fisheye photo..
This is one with the circular as well, but with the edges cropped off..

14mm isnt to wide for tandems, I have been using the canonn 10-22mm for the past few weeks with great results
i have one of those but find it heavy and was thinking of moving to a sigma 14mm.
Dude, the Canon 10-22mm is lighter than most zoom and fixed lenses, according to the specs. It is 380g, according to the Canon website. The Sigma website quotes their 14mm at 630g. Not sure that's going to feel any lighter.

Aw hell,...I'll bite. Camera flyers love getting their picture taken.
Here's one from last year. The story's pretty good. Some NY TV show called "Ultimate Road Trip" (the YES network?) sends these Yankees fans to different games, but they have to meet some sort of challenge to get the tickets. These guys really didn't know they were going skydiving until they turned down the driveway at Skydive Pepperell. And of course, being a bunch of Red Sox fans, we informed them how much the Yankees suck. We put up two camera flyers on a couple of them to get more footage for their show.
Here I'm videoing KJ (who almost chickened out) and giving him the finger while my buddy Keith Murray takes him on a tandem. Photo taken by Bill Purdin.

This is another good thread to keep close to the top... and since I actually finally have a picture of me with a camera on my head I figured I'd post it...
I was not flying over the formation at that time... I was flying on level... I was shooting video for the guy in Orange and Black who was doing his 2000th skydive...
I figure it qualifies as working since he did cover my slot...
I'll post my video and the other videographers footage when I get the chance to edit it.

I love this stuff. When the plane isn't too full, I will sometimes go to the cockpit to shoot the pilot while doing tandem vids. Start by zooming in on the dash altimeter, then out to the pilot who sometimes does something silly (talking on cell phone, looking at map, sleeping, etc.) This time, when I swung my camera to shoot the pilot, he hauled out a camera and got a shot of me.
P.S. Another good reason to forego those silly boxes for video cameras.

Hi, do you have a wide angle adapter in your camera for stills?
How it works?
Blue Skies
I really like it. It is a quick, cheap solution to having multiple lenses. THe only problem was I mounted everything on the helmet with the adapter off, so when i put it on it sticks out in the video frame a bit. Easy fix. When I am on my home computer I will send some samples....

I made a little trip up to New York last week and got a chance to make a few jumps with none other than Laszlo Andacs. We took my girlfriend's brother, Ted, on a tandem and Laszlo shot the video.
I flew outside video and snapped a few shots of him in action. Pretty interesting to watch him sitfly - he's rather talented in case you guys haven't noticed
Thanks for the jumps and the pics, Laci. I have a few good shots of you from the tandem I'll be sending along once I get a chance to go through them all.

If you had a still camera with a lcd that acted as a viewfinder and had some kind of output port then it would work with stills. (would be really cool) Some of the higher end cameras in the near future might have that capability. Right now i just use it with my video. You cant control anything from it but it shows rec/stby, battery life, tape, exposures, framing brackets, etc. Whatever you woud see on the cameras LCD.
drawbacks are these. -polarized glasses or goggles make it hard to see -direct sunlight on the screen makes it hard to see. Built a removeable sun shade for it but its kind of a hassle. Can usually see it well enough without the shade.

Well it's not me at work... but Norman did get some of me working while I was shooting him at work. Although I suppose it's more accurate to call what I was doing playing as I rather enjoy shooting formation skydivers...
The pictures he took when I was across from him taking "NormanKentAtWork-2.jpg" was or there about was definitely fun... the video was especially cool... because I got to see myself deploy out of the center of the formation...
