where do I send my sony? Can't Post

so I went to "Local results for sony service near Las Vegas, NV" on Google and found that there are no local sony service stores.
So I find sonystyle.com and they have an option to send the unit in.they take all your info and want you to pay but never give an address. OBVIOUSLY I am not paying until I get an address and I would LOVE to talk to someone. WTF? anyone have any experience with sony? I dont like paying to have someone take my camera that I have had NO human contact with.


damn thing is its only a C;33;23 error which should be fixable by the consumer but the playback function just does NOT want to work. after a fraction of a second of playback the picture locks up and shows tme the error. WTF?Unsure
I tried new tapes I tried ejecting and inserting but nothing is working. I don't want to pay $269 and find out that sony can't do anything.


I tried calling their 1-877 number but couldnt get through.( i will try again but I need to give it a few minutes etc)

whoa i must've dialed the wrong number the first time. its still a COMPUTER program with a glicth. ARRRGGGG> why can't REAL poeple just answer the phoneMad


EDIT: Ok so I've been answering my own questions but... once I finally got passed the comupter recorded voice ERROR I was able to speak to someone who was more than happy to take my moneyUnsure

I guess it's that flat rate everyone talks about $269 to get it fixed. so...off it goes.

I called and asked them to tell me if the flat rate covers everything, and they said it did. Then I hear that some people had to pay more??? I am confused. Mine throws a error code every now and then. I hit it a few times, hit reset, and it is good to go from there. When it starts to mess up on a regular basis I guess I will send it in.

yea mine was not working anymore no matter what I did. P.I.T.A

269 is the flat rate...meaning you will not pay LESS than 269. you will have to pay for parts and shipping etc...Unsure

the focus is lost and the zoom is Max every time I turn it on Unsure

I just got mine back from Sony and paid the $269.00 flatrate. They replaced 2 boards, one was a motherboard and I did not have to pay anything extra for the parts.

nene-my 109 has the same error code and focusing problems. This is the 5th instance I've heard of 109's with this and now it's my turn...grrrrrrr. Maybe it's not that great a camera for freefall? Since I have no insurance on it maybe the money is better spent on an PC1000....hmmm

thats great to hear!

I dont think that it'll be more than a head adjustment but its good to hear that it shouldnt cost anything more.


I tracked my cam today it should have arrived at sony. the usps says they tried to deliver but couldn't.

(I dont remember the excat wording, but it was like noone was there to accept delivery.)

I called sony to see WTF? after 35 mintues of explaining that I wanted to ensure someone will be there the best answer I could get was. wait for tomorrow.Unsure

while I understand they have no idea where my camera is, I want to make sure I didnt just pay for shipping just to have a "no contact" return."

man, that guy was just not understanding me.
ME: Let me read the address to you so I know its correct..(read the addy)

Operator: yes that is our address

ME: well it says they attempted delivery at 12:52 pm. do you guys close down for lunch or something?

OP: not that I know of.

ME: ok, how can I be sure that someone will be there to accpet delivery tomorrow? If you don't accept it tomorrow the post office will hold it for 5 days then return it to me. if you aren't there to receive it do you have someone that goes to the Post office to pick them up?

OP: I don't think so.

ME: Ok, what I am concerned with is wasting my time and money. I don't want to do either. can you explain to me how your office was not there for delivery? because if you are close between the hours of 12 and 1 I will call the P.O. and see if there is a way I can make a note on the delivery label.

OP: Well I don't know if the delivery comes to morrow we will receive it.


ME: (just dumbfounded) ok I guess I'll call tomorrow.

Just to clarify a couple of things. I sent my camera to their 'authorized repair facility' Precision Camera in Connecticut [I think].
And so far I have not been impressed with their customer service, that includes Sony and Precision Camera.
I actually ended up having a not so pleasant experience with the whole thing, as far as I know though, I am the only one. They had my camera for 8 weeks, kept on telling me, almost done, almost done. I got it back mid July, and it broke again 2 weeks later, the POS won't even turn on. So it is now sitting at Precision Camera...again.
I'm sure your experience will be much better Laugh

Was this definitely a C33:23 error - mine was giving C31:23 for a while - see this thread for more info and help:

It does it totally at random moments. It's a problem with the heads i'm sure - they might need servicing, but i don't want to spend the best part of $300 to get this done, so i just change tapes/remove the battery if they don't eject, then pop in a new tape and normally i'm good to go.

Please let me know what the results of the repair were, and what work exactly was done when you get yours back.

that what I used to do, but the problem got so bad that the tape would not playback ata ll.
I had no choice. either had tio get it fixed, buy a new camera that fits in my helmet or buy a whole new set upUnsure

NEVER send anything to Camcorder Clinic in Tampa, FL.

My brother sent one in, took 1 month to get back. Fixed it for $149. Free estimates.

The mother uckers ucked me. I sent my PC 101 in and the problem was that it wouldn't let me record, the eject signal was flashing and making that 'ding da ding da ding' sound.

Before I sent it in, I could put a tape in the camera.
Since they sent it back, I can't put a tape in AND there is a white piece inside that sticks up half an inch. I called them and told him that and he said 'all of our staff is sony certified, bla bla bla.

He wouldnt' even listen to what I had to say before he went into his usually speech. I think that these places, take out your good stuff and put in broken shit and send it back to you.

I am going to look into taking him into court. Calling the Better Business Bureau on them.

Oh, they never called once, I called once a week and they said, call next week.

I am sick of these companies taking advantage of us.

Well I got my Camera back. It seems to be working beautifully. I'll test it out in freefall this weekend.

BTW- The Address to the repair center is

But you need to call them first and set up a work order number then you have to fill out a sheet the Email to you so they know who the hell you are.

I hate to be calling you on this, but how can you make such decision based on a single experience ? As far as I understand, there are LOTS of Sony miniDV cams out there - and they mostly are subjected to far more stress than the maker expects them to, yet still function (this is just an ASSUMPTION - though I am gonna guess that any canopy opening shock is quite severe on all mechanical parts).
I have a TRV22 that I have taken through a few dozen slider down BASE jumps. I have also taken it down slopes on a snowboard and have landed on it. It has been submerged completely underwater this last Bridge Day (don't ask :( ). After 4 hours of taking it apart and cleaning EVRYTHING it's back to life. So to say the least, my experience is directly opposite of yours. And yet, I am absolutely not qualified to say that Sony is best in the world - cuz for all I know a <insert brand X> could of taken all that, plus could of survived a water landing.

Perhaps you need to put the pressure on, get your asshole hat, and make Sony replace or upgrade the camera for you.

good luck either way, but from my personal experience as well as talking to other people ( who I noticed mostly jump Sonys ) - everybody is quite happy.

they suck! The reason I would buy another brand would be because of sony customer service! they fukn suck.

I bought this trv 22 and at broke after some use. THAT's not the problem. the problem is that I sent it in to their EXPERTS who more or less stole my money since the camera has the same problems that I sent it in for.

My pet peeve is someone who can not do the job they are in. Fucked I I tried to do the same half asses repair work on some item. I won;t get into what I do, but My balls would be on the line if I fucked up so badly.

i DID give them the benefit of the doubt and I called them and SPOKE(not screamed, I was very patient) with them only to get what is apparently a shug off.


THAT's how I can make such a decison

I agree, here is a short summary of my horrible experience with Sony.
First, never send your camera to Precision Camera in CT.
March 05-July 22, 05--Precision Camera was busy 'fixing' my camera. I got it back and a week later it broke with a new problem
Aug 22-Oct 24, 2005--Precision Camera was busy 'fixing' my camera. I did not want to send it back to them, but Sony said I had to and if I had any problems to call them and they will expedite the process. Funny, when I called to tell them that Precision Camera was blowing me off and it was taking too long to repair, Sony said they could do nothing about it.
Currently--NOW, I have to send my camera to Laredo Texas, gee, it sounds like they suck as bad as Precision Camera. BUT, they said if they cannot fix it, they will replace the camera. Precision Camera did give me back 1/2 of the flat fee I paid, which I will be calling them back to get it all back. 6 months of having my camera and not even fixing it is rediculous and unacceptable. Both Sony and Precision Camera suck.

well, an update if anyone cares.
(sent me trv22 back to sony, with their instructions they said they'd fix it fro free...since i paid for it the first timeUnsure.)

So they got the camera and did an estimate siad it would cost 269 to fix...which is the flat fee. so after the Third time calling they seem to understand

the first time I couldn't break through the fifth layer of skull.
2nd time I finally made them understand what I was saying ( even though I sia dthe same thing as the first time. damn its so hard to stay calm and rational on the phone with them.) anyway the second time I spoke to the service dept. and he totally understood me and took the time to listen rather than telling me about their flat fee. once HE (the service dapt manager)heard me he said you're absoluetly correct, it should be and will be repaired for no further cost.

the third time I call (today) to check up on the repair status it took a bit to explain to the initial operator, since I had to start at the beginning every time I call but she put me through to the service dept again to verify that I was correct .. I was/am

they said that the repair order will be delivered to the technician ( she did this while I was on the phone, so she would ensure they dont send it back unless it was repaired.)
so I SHOULD have a working camera VERY SOON!!!! I was hoping it got here before ELOY but I had to buy the TRV 19, which saved my ass, from my Rigger. ( that one had soem problems as well but BEST BUY's GEEK SQUAD KICKED ASS and repaired, under warranty, in in 10 days....that included shipping time!

You should record every conversation to them and just play it back at the beginning of the call and come back when the tape has finished.

UPDATE--
so, I got my TRV22 back and it worked...for about three minutes...GRRR! (I got a preboarding interview and the freefalll. then it stopped working but at least I got the freefalll)

so I called sony yet again and this time they are sending a prepaid (UPS) label. I am going to send it back again and see WTF they can come up with againMad

I sent my camera here... http://www.a-tech-inc.com , http://www.a-tech-inc.com/wo_form.html . I landed in a creek on a BASE jump at the WFFC and drowned my PC101 and it wouldn't shut off or sense a tape in the carrier. Camera works great now, new switch flex board and cleaning, total for the repair was $190.85

Also a friend of mine sent his PC105 in after ripping off his lens and manual focus ring, his total for the repair was $160.70 (not including lost Waycool lens)

Update on repair of my camera PC101 s/n 1822911. The repair service , http://www.a-tech-inc.com shipped my camera back with no insurace on it with UPS and it's now lost or stolen. The sevice is no help with the investagation or filing a claim with UPS. I bet it was sold on E-Bay by them, under the seller name of "DoctorSony". I would not send them anything you don't don't want to lose or have to buy back on E-Bay. DON"T USE THIS SERVICE AT ALL COST. And Manny, Thanks for nothing!

This is why I don't buy repair insurance or send anything in to be repaired. A Sony HC20 can be had for $125 on Ebay and a Sony HC40 for $200 -$300 on Ebay. Over the past two years I have bought four cameras, but sold the "broken" cameras on Ebay on "as is" auction and made 75% of my money back.
Plus I'm not out a camera for weeks on end.

Well, here is my update. I sent my camera to the Laredo center I think back in Feb. They had it about a week and hadn't heard anything so I called them. Apparently they were waiting for my payment information. Well first of all, I had written them a letter stating what the situation was and that I was NOT paying for the repairs per a pre-arranged agreement. And I even included what account number they were suppose to charge it to. I also included my event number which apparently they missed that one too.
Well that had it back to me in about a week. So far so good with the camera. I have only put about 20 jumps on it. But now that I have seen the quality of the PC 1000, I may have to ditch my 105 and buy the 1000. I hate to give Sony anymore of my money Crazy, buy damn the PC 1000 is the bomb! I just need to find a good deal on one. Cool
