If you can find the Indiana or Ohio RW record they are the same. They set the record in one state then flew to the other to set it there too. About 1997 or so.

Illinois RW should be 259...completed and held for 2.3 seconds...unless a state record requires a 3 second completion...

State records can be whatever you want. There's no FAI rule or anything. The 3 second rule is gone BTW, now it's "all grips and under control" if I recall correctly.

I have several websites (only texasstaterecord.com) is currently active where I plan on housing the record data. I hope to do some work on the other sites this summer and will let you know when they are active.
I don't know how many categories I need to include in the records. I originally intended to collect only national and state RW and FF. Then the PM's and emails started so I expanded the list. Problem is it may expand forever if I don't cut it off somewhere!
I can see categories for BRW...Bob-way RW, or NRW...Naked RW, or RRW...Rantoul RW, or DZ.RW...and you know what that one is! Where does this monster stop!
I am thinking of drawing the line at the skydiving formation disciplines (RW, VRW, CRW) broken down by men/women and women, and ages over 40.

Good point... It would be easier to keep the RW records in one location, CRW in another, VRW still in another, and maintained by different hosts who specialize in each discipline, but can provide links to each other's sites for references.
Besides, we already keep track of the deaf state, national and world records on our web site at http://www.deafskydivers.org

LOL well, I only listed the records of 5 ways or bigger... Man, you actually remember that 3 way at St. George that John, Andrew and I did???? Seems like 8 years ago or so! And no, it wasn't a world record at the time. Australia had a 7 way 12 or 13 years ago.

Gemini.. I think you got the WRW-33 put on Nevada.. not Montana...and the following year there was 34/35... there at LP. I am not sure if that counts for state records or not.

I think the more people that move, the better. If the base is the only ones changing grips, and the outside wackers haven't done a thing, IMO, that doesn't count. We need to make getting a record a bit of a challenge.

Partially right John! I have several other bigway domain names without Texas in them and will probably put it under one of those sites. Everything is in the same file though so even though it will not say texasstaterecord.com, it will be...

Hi Jim,
Are you sharing this list with USPA? I remember getting a post on the crwdog email list that USPA were collecting state records, but what I saw on their website was nowhere near as informative as what you have collected here...

Don't know if USPA has looked at this list, but since we have not had many changes in awhile, I have posted the list as the "Unofficial Records" on BigWays.com and TexasStateRecord.com.
Thanks to everyone who contributed and has helped keep the list current. Gave you all a plug on the website!
So I wonder if they are allowing previous records to be submitted to become "official". Looking at Oklahoma's records that may be the case. If I am reading it correctly. Does that mean we could submit the attached jump? It was the first 7 way over Texas. Completed in Sept. 1968, photo by Jerry Schrimsher. I think Sherry was a judge by then. Of course she was two weeks away from giving birth to my brother.

Why not? Just have her sign it off, cough up the bucks, and have the Regional Director send it in. Lots of states out there have no records -- start sending in those four-ways.

While you're updating the Texas record, I think there was a 201 way at Lake Wales, FL, about a decade or so ago. Anyone have details?

Unofficial records updated through 4/28/07. Please let me know if you have any new updates.
FYI: The new USPA State Record Rule 12-3 requires a notice of the record attempt within 72 hours of the attempt and a record application filed not later than one week after the attempt.
Information required is a roster of the jumpers on the successful attempt that includes names, Parachute Association No. (USPA, CSPA, BPA, etc.), Association Membership No., Membership Expiration Date, and Gender.
Also required are type of jump/category, size, location of jump, and signatures of S&TA and Judge or USPA board member.

I was surprised when I first learned it and am still puzzled by the fact that you don't actually have to be a citizen of a particular state to be on that state's record...

US big way records are generally open to the best jumpers since they are not considered "National" records like most other countries. It is more "the largest [insert formation category here] formation record over {insert state here]".
I inquired once about the Mexican record and was told it is a national record and has to be all Mexican. Ditto for the Canadian and German records.

The Irish National RW Record is now 30, with this 30-way Shamrock-shaped formation, built on Monday 6th August 2007 using a Skyvan and Porter at 15,000ft.
The criteria for a National Record here, is for all jumpers to be either Irish Nationals or Northern Irish Nationals - or other nationalities who have more than 50 jumps in Ireland and more than 6 months jumping here...basically true Irish or ex-Pat's who are now living and jumping here.

Maybe we ought to segregate the records between "National RW Records" (all country residents) and "Largest RW Records". This would help to clear up some of the confusion.

That sounds good. The UK and Ireland records both had 'National' defined as anyone who has that country as their Nationality + foreigners who now live and regularly jump in the country.

Australia completed a 25-way CRW diamond under guidance of Chris Gay. This was at Skydive Ramblers at Toogoolawah last year. I'm not sure of the exact date, but it was before I got there in April 2007. I think that all of the Aussies from the world record were part of it, so they could give you more information if you need.
Canada completed a 21-way CRW diamond a month or two ago out at Eden North, organized by Lyal Waddell.

Thanks for posting this thread. A couple of us few women skydivers in Idaho have taken notice that there is no Women's record and are going to try to set one at Star, Idaho the weekend of the 10th of October. We're looking at jumping Friday, Saturday and Sunday if we havne't gotten it done by then. Any women out there who'd like to make a trip here and give us a hand?

Make sure you have a current USPA judge on premise to get it certified to send in to the USPA

From the current USPA website:
State Record Procedures
Complete and submit the “Request for Certification of State Record” form.
Each record must be certified by at least one regional (or higher-rated) judge, rated in the discipline concerned, plus at least one of the following (all those certifying the record may be participants in the record):
a. Safety & Training Advisor b. USPA board member c. USPA staff member d. Regional (or higher-rated) judge
Initial notification of record must be sent to USPA within 72 hours of the record being set and can be transmitted by e-mail fax: (540) 604-9741.
The completed “Request for Certification of State Record” form, along with the required fees*, must be received by USPA within seven days of the successful record.
* The record fee is $35 and includes one official certificate. Additional certificates may be purchased for $5 each (minimum of four certificates).

I receved email from the USPA and a judge in the Gulf Coast Region stating that a judge does not have to be present to rule on a state record, but it is up to each individual judge.
"CERTIFICATION: We, the undersigned, certify the record performance aforementioned above. The attempt was made in accordance with the regulations of the USPA Skydiver’s Competition Manual. Photographic evidence, where appropriate, of the record was provided and verified."
I would line up my judge first making sure he/she agrees to judge remotely since the record has to be submitted to the USPA within seven days of the attempt.

Do you list records on your site even if they aren't official with USPA?
Apparently, yes. I see Georgia FS-64. NOT USPA acknowledged. Matter of fact, comparing the two listings, they agree on very few things.
I see nothing that says POPS or SOS or JOES is acknowleged by USPA either. If it's there, I'm missing it.
Ahhhh...now I see why. For a State Record to be recognized by USPA, it's $35. But wait! For your $35 you get "a handsome certificate, suitable for framing"!

Yes, my site lists Unofficial Records while USPA lists official records.
Who defines "officialness"? USPA doesn't list POPS/SOS/JOES records, but there is a well defined worldwide organization that does, and it has well defined rules for setting said records. I submit they are every bit as "official" as USPA records.
And to the best of my knowledge, Guinness hasn't been blessed by any recognized world authority as the "official" arbiter of records either.

USPA does...for a small one-time fee of $35. (Cash, checks, money orders and all major credit cards accepted.)
Send me only $25 and I'll certify any record "official".

Ohio just added a 22 way POPS and since no one had actually done the paperwork on the previous records... it looks like it will be the official state record too.

Thanks. I realized only after - that I had questioned (replied) to the incorrect originator. Jim - ?
I notice that somewhere between late 2006 in this on-going thread & the latest (June 2010) update that you posted - all of a sudden under VA (Virginia) - the CRW-10 mysteriously just disappeared, and in its place "out of nowhere" is FS-100.
I don't think this is accurate - so again am asking (just asking ...that's all! ) where that #, and this particular piece of data has come from?
I'm not personally aware (doesn't mean it didn't happen) of even an un-official successful 100-way FS having taken place in VA / out of a VA DZ - although I do know 1st-hand, of the official (USPA recognized) current state record, of 88.

Most of the formation sizes came from participants, jump articles, and jumps I participated in. Remember the USPA state records are the "official" state records as submitted under their rules. This doesn't mean they were the largest "unofficial" formation. I know of a particular state headdown record by 4 women that was submitted after USPA began accepting applications just to get in the "official" record books.
I am willing to correct the numbers as I discover errors, but will not change an actual larger "unofficial" record to a smaller "official" record.
Hence the distinction between "unofficial" and "official" which I think is pretty clear.

Ohio women just sat a 21 way record 2 weeks ago. We also have a 32 way RW record that is official from Labor day weekend.
