Hey Cat! Dates are not yet set in stone, but it's being scheduled for October 12 - 16 (Wed - Sun). We'll have warm up and practice dives for new people on the 12th and 13th, then start the record attempts Fri the 14th and continue through Sat the 15th. We're possibly looking at a 25+ way, which would destroy the current 15 way record. One attempt at the Night DWR will be made Sat night (current record is 7 way). Sunday will be up to us to pursue other records such as head-down, CRW, or whatever we'd like, or just fun jumps. If we haven't used up all the record attempts by sundown Saturday, we'll finish up on Sunday.

Some skydivers are coming to stay for a whole week. Others may come for 2 weeks and go DZ-hopping part of the time, especially the Europeans.

I will post some concrete details after I talk with Betty Kabeller, the DZO at Lake Wales.

Blue Skies!
Billy

I don't anticipate any changes because of new ownership. The former DZO is now the DZM... John Woo and I are going to be getting in touch with her real soon, and John will be visiting the DZ later this month when he goes down to Florida for a few days.

I'll post some details soon.

Hi Cat, I have been working on an announcement for some time. I'm just trying to work out the details and coordinate info with John, Jane and the DZ before I send it out. It'll go out pretty soon. John is also updating the Deaf Skydivers website with a DWR 2005 page.

I will follow up my announcement email with a registration/sign-up email and keep track of everyone. I have an extensive database of every known and current deaf skydiver worldwide.

Thanks and blue skies!

I forgot to mention that yes, Jane will be participating, and she is also our DZ Liaison/Coordinator, taking care of issues with the DZ, etc. John and I are basically the jump organizers.

You can also add Charl to the list. He returned home last December after a 10 month solo voyage around the world in his sailboat, and is anxious to get back in the skies. He was on the first DWR 2001.

I appreciate the offer. While I'm not sure that you'll get on the record attempts, there will still be plenty of opportunities for video, like on some fun/evaluation/practice jumps and some ground-based footage such as dirt dives and us landing our parachutes... Looking forward to seeing you there!

DWR Deaf World Record jumps..

I remember back in 1986 we could only find 4 deaf skydivers... it hard for deaf to get into this sport.. no interpiters for jump course, etc.. so most never try it..

today? we have about 30 know deaf skydivers...

I'd love some status updates because I am planning on a Florida trip that combines windtunnel (15-30 mins for myself), Scott Miller, and hopefully DWR too.

I need to think of arranging dates and bunking arrangements. (A free place to pitch a tent? Bunk at somebody's? Etc.) I want to concentrate funds on the FUN and avoid renting a car/hotel if possible.

This is pretty much what I have in my database. I will have to double-check with everyone. But I am reasonably sure that we will have at least 20 jumpers capable of building a new world record. Smile

Re: [BillyVance] DWR 2005 [In reply to] Can't Post

You forgot my name. ;-)

Of course, I may be only 100 jumps and a B, but I'd like to be a part of that formation attempt. (BTW - my tracking is getting much better now. All my recent solo freefalls were all dedicated solely to tracking pratice)

Yes, you need to contact everyone right away because there's not much time left before DWR. In fact, I held off buying my airplane tickets because I'm still holding out for opportunities to avoid hotel/carpool. I've got an extremely limited budget for the trip and will go camping at the dropzones if I do not find anybody to share costs with. ;)

Have you contacted these people for an update on whether they are coming or not? Would be hate to be short of the largest all-deaf formation skydive. Wink

What are all your plans for accomodations, out of curiousity?

Re: [mdrejhon] DWR 2005 [In reply to] Can't Post

A small group of deaf have currently scheduled windtunnel time at:
Oct 10 at 5:30PM - 1 hour tunnel block
Oct 11 at 7PM - 1 hour tunnel block
Something like 8 or so will be there (some people will arrive too late to be a part of the windtunnel stuff).

I'll likely be there for Oct 11, and I am thinking of buying my own 30 minute tunnel time block ($375.00) sometime after 8:00PM on Oct 11 if SkyVenture has some time left. If anyone wants to share (even if you just want to buy 5 or 10 minutes off me), please send me a PM before I call to reserve. If anyone wants to split a 1-hour time block with me, please let me know.

Re: [mdrejhon] DWR 2005 [In reply to] Can't Post

Important!

I only discovered this now (nobody told me, and the DeafSkydivers.org website did not link to this). I needed to fill out this Deaf World Record application form:
http://www.floridaskydiving.com/DWR%20e-mail%20form.doc

I found it on Florida Skydive's Calendar by accident:
http://www.floridaskydiving.com/schedule.htm#1005

Shame on you all. None of you ever told me I had to fill out this application form. Done and credit card sent! Wink

Edit:
- Airplane flight purchased. Arriving early Tuesday 11th, leaving Monday 17th.
- Tunnel time purchased, 15 minutes solely for myself. Orlando SkyVenture at 6:30pm on Tuesday 11th. (I may purchase another 15 minutes, spontaneously)
