In case you didn't get enough of The Who... Three years after they were playing Rickenbackers at the Railway, they stormed America with the best two synchs on TV. Back then they used pre-taped music backgrounds, or even special vinyl recordings, but it varied according to the needs/demands of the band. Sometime they did all the music, other times they would leave off the drum tracks. Or they would broadcast everything except the vocal track. Hullaballoo and Dick Clark usually went with total lip-synch. It was hard to tell sometimes, but the Smothers Brothers disguised it well with The Who.
Or...they may have done it REALLY live. Can you tell?
