Skydive Cowtown
Pros:
Scott was very unprofessional, started yelling and cursing, then refused service.
Cons:
We were not allowed to jump the next day as the owner stated.

I want to be as fair as possible to Skydive Cowtown and the owner Scott Moore. Running a business that depends so much on good weather and where operating costs can be very high must be tough. Since Scott refused service over the phone, we never had the opportunity to see and therefore rate aircraft, facilities, or location. This review is based on my conversations with Scott and focus on the last conversation we had when he refused service.
I scheduled tandem jumps for myself and three other family members with Scott several weeks in advance. Scott was helpful and informative. Skydive Cowtown has recently started honoring skydive tickets purchased from Soaring Adventures.
We discussed the recent rash of high winds. Since we live three hours away and decided to stay at a hotel, I asked if we could reschedule our jumps the following day if our original jumps were postponed. Scott assured me we could.
The big day arrived. Scott was running behind schedule but said we should make our afternoon jump if weather conditions held. Unfortunately, the winds increased and the jumps were postponed. I knew a reschedule for the next day had been assured, so for us, this was no big deal. We had relatives and friends to visit and could take the opportunity to do some shopping.
The problems started when I called to reschedule. Scott was not available and the woman who answered the phone said we could jump at Stephenville, about 2 hours away. She said the pilot originally scheduled to be at Skydive Cowtown was in reserve status for the airlines and was called to fly that day. This was the reason provided for having to travel to Stephenville to jump. Since I had not done any safety research at that drop zone and had not talked to the owner, I asked Scott to give me a call for more information.
During all my conversations with Scott and the woman, I was always polite and calm. I never had a tone of sarcasm, insincerity, or ever raised my voice. This made the following conversation even more surprising and an extreme disappointment. Scott called back with a different story. He said he had two planes unavailable and he had tentative plans to help with jumps scheduled at Stephenville and was just waiting on confirmation. When I inquired about jumping there, he said he was not sure if they would honor the Soaring Adventures tickets. Scott then delivered a long monologue about having owned a million dollar airplane and having 40 customers at a time waiting to jump. Worse, he said he said he did not care if he had any tandem jumpers or not. These are his exact words. He also discussed his financial agreement with Soaring Adventures which is none of my business or concern. When I was able to direct the conversation back to our situation and ask him directly if we would have any opportunity to jump the next day, he said no. This is when the yelling and cursing started. Scott focused on the postponement due to high winds. I had already explained I did not have a problem with the postponement and was happy he was watching out for everyone’s safety. Scott then told me he did not have time to explain any further and did not need my business. He stated he had the right to refuse anyone service and though he did not do so often, felt I deserved this action. Scott then ended the conversation.
There is absolutely no excuse for Scott’s behavior. Any employee should face severe consequences if they treated a customer like Scott treated me and revealed private financial agreements. This behavior coming from the business owner is a double shock and speaks volumes to his lack of professionalism. Skydive Cowtown has some positive reviews and I hope this will be your experience. I feel obligated to provide this information as fair warning.

My family and I skydived (skydove?) at this place on December 23, 2007, and over the next two months, had an absolutely horrible experience related to the jumps.
I want to be totally honest in this review, and to give the operator the benefit of the doubt, will list the positives in advance. The overall reality is that we had a good time that day despite some significant problems, but the problems over the following 8 weeks were extremely irritating due to the awful attitude of the owner.
Now - on to the good about the skydiving day:
1. The price is good for tandem skydiving.
2. The tandem partners were friendly and knowledgeable. The jumpers handled people of different nerve-levels well.
3. We did not schedule videos, but once we arrived, some wanted videos. Though this was going to lengthen the day, the staff worked to get it done.
On to the negatives:
1: the plane we were to jump from arrived over two hours late.
2: the pilot seemed incompetent. One of our jumpers were told to jump over a mile off course so they landed in a field a mile away. The staff acted like this happened all the time with this pilot.
3: They had two tandem kits but they weren't getting a jumper ready while the plane was in the air, which led to a huge amount of down-time between jumps. This speaks to the incompetence of the owner.
Now again - despite those problems, we had a good time, and as of that evening, I would have given this place probably three stars, maybe four.
However, the real problems started soon after regarding the videos. We knew the owner was shutting down for Christmas, so we didn't get concerned when the videos didn't arrive for a couple of weeks. We started to wonder after three, and after four, we decided to call. My sister called four weeks to the day after our jump on a Sunday. The owner answered and when told of the problem, said he'd call the video guy and call my sister back.
We did not receive a call back. On Wednesday, three days after the initial call, my other sister called the owner . There were several witnesses to this call. While my sister did make it be known that this situation had to be resolved, she was not rude. The owner replied that he had made a single call to the video person and had not received a call back. Somehow he felt that this was enough effort and that him letting us know his progress was unnecessary. This is unacceptable answer in my opinion, and my sister let him know she felt the same. He got angry and defensive before the call ended. The following day he called my first sister and left a vicious email complaining about us.
On Friday, I called him and tried to calmly get the situation resolved . He had finally gotten ahold of the videographer and was having the videos remade. He complained that we hadn't called in until four weeks after the jump (frankly I thought it was polite of us to not complain immediately). He refused to estimate when the videos may be completed. He told me that if we wanted further correspondence, it would be via mail or email. I tried calling him back later and emailing to make sure he had the right address but he did not reply to either message.
Several days later, we received two letters which he had sent on consecutive days. It appeared that the first letter was written prior to the angry phone call with my sister, and the second written afterwards. The first was fairly polite in which he essentially admitted they had probably been sent to the wrong address (what kind of a businessman sends $500 worth of merchandise through untrackable US Mail is beyond me). The second letter was vile. Choice phrases included calling us the "Hitler Youth", "my job is to make you schedule changing little girls happy", and threatened to call the authorities because of our "threats" (to call the Better Business Bureau I guess). He also blamed us for the problem by requesting videos which allegedly caused schedule problems (not that we put a gun to his head and forced him to take our money, and note above the late plane, and the slow turnaround between jumps).
Over the next couple of weeks, he was unresponsive to very civil emails by me despite this being his "preferred method of communication". Finally about three weeks later, he emailed me that the videos were ready. Today we picked up the videos. The videos were good, so I give him that. Nonetheless, this was a disgusting experience and I hope noone who reads this review will visit this business.

I am a student/beginner whose first jump was called off because of 30 mph winds.Even though this was a letdown,I now am very glad to have had time to absorb the "ground" instruction given to me that day by the owner operator Scott. He was very helpful;even lending me written instruction material to study this week before my week-end jump! There was an atmosphere of experience and care.I highly recommend this DZ for a place to learn, and to enjoy skydiving.****

I went to this drop zone several times and while everyone seemed friendly, I was never allowed to make a skydive. I was told it was a "student" DZ and they were there to make money only. SO, if you are experienced, better go to Skydive Dallas than waste you time with this group!

Today was my first jump. WHAT A RIDE!!Yes, I was nervous but was made to feel very safe. They understand new jumpers and take time to answer questions and ease any fears. I had some, believe me. This is a great bunch of down to earth guys who take safety VERY seriously. Would recommend highly to new or seasoned jumpers.

Skydive Cowtown promises to deliver big-DZ quality and capability with small-DZ price and hospitality, which will be a big plus for avid jumpers in the DF/W metroplex. I have flown with the owner before at another excellent drop zone; he's a hell of a good guy and knows more about his aircraft than probably anyone alive. Best of luck! -Jimbo
