UPDATE 2007:

Sadly, WFFC 2007 has been cancelled. Let's hope it is revived in 2008.

UPDATE 2006

This boogie still rocks!!! Attendance was down a bit from prior years, but for me it just meant no waits for many great jumpships e.g., Schweizer 2-22 glider, Antonov 2 HUGE Russian biplane, DC 9-21 Jet Airliner etc. You have to jump the jet. Even though its not really a big deal for an up jumper, your whuffo friends will sure be impressed. Event is well run. When winds destroyed some event tents, new ones were brought in the next morning. Would like to see more vendors in 2007. Great people, great planes, low priced event, free beer nightly (including Becks, Rolling Rock and others). I can't wait until 2007.

2005: I like old airplanes so for me this is PARADISE. 2005 had a DC 3 and a modified double decked DC 4 called a Carvair. Past events have had rare classic planes too. You can do as many jumps as you want in a day, almost no waiting for planes when things get going. The staff and volunteers are friendly, the cops are cool (unlike in Quincy, former WFFC home) and they have FREE beer and live bands every night. It is the bargain of the century. Most people drink more beer than their admission would buy. The town of Rantuol is a ghost of its former glory since the huge Chanute AFB shut down. On the bright side we get to jump at a HUGE DZ (ex USAF base) with a zillion safe places to land. There is a very good Mexican restaurant in town, but most of the other places are just so so. There is good BBQ on site in the food tent. Lots of mfrs have tents here and some offer substantial WFFC pricing discounts if you buy at the event. Its a great place to try out new gear as most mfrs offer demos. The weather can be really hot and humid and then turn to thunderstorms with rain. Still, we always get plenty of jumpable weather. This event is FUN! The free load organizing is really great and you can get some free instruction from experienced jumpers. DEFINITELY READ the WFFC first timer info on dropzone.com. You will be flying your canopy in crowded skies and need to know how to do it safely. It isnt hard, but you do need to really keep your eyes open during canopy descent. If you choose to land away from the crowds its even easier. You should go. If you do you'll definitely be back.

First time 2005.

I could have jumped just about every 5 minutes should choose. Tried the Carvair (not so much fun for me... 40 minutes to 10k), 30k jump, biplane, hot air baloon, and the usual.

Food was a pleasant surprise... much better than expected.

Facilities also better than expected.

Because of the amount of aircraft available there is no one on the ground more than 30 minutes. Excellent place to get your jump numbers up. Safety is a must. Pilots are professional and spots are almost flawless despite the amount of aircraft flying and jumpers in the air. It is probably the friendliest event for the inexperienced as well as the pros. I wish it were open yearround. The surrounding townsfolk welcome you with open arms, as well as the politicians. I can't say enough. I can't wait for this years event.
