Plenty big landing area.
Swoop/high performance lane.
Large packing area.
Two aircraft for when it's busy.
Nice facilities overall.

I thought this place was great. Nice layout, very clean and all that jazz. I'm from a smaller DZ, so for me the layout and facilities were really nice, but it still gave me the small DZ feel. I got a hand up making friends coming in as a jumper visiting for a little over a month, but all the same made good friends with the regulars. Everyone I asked was more than open to either jump with me or invite me on theirs. There is all the right type of people there for a great time, if you want to do something crazy, learn/improve techniques, or just have fun (when do you ever not, right?) there is always someone around to jump with.

I had mixed feelings about the scenery, but if I had to give it thumbs up or down, I'd go with up. In the immediate area, there is a lot of brown, which just isn't my thing, not the DZ's fault of course, that's just how it is. Most mornings though, and sometimes through the day, there is a low layer of fog/haze on the ground that you would never notice when you're in it, but at altitude it hangs low between the large hills/small mountains, and just looks incredible. There were a few perfect days like that where I looked out the door and it gave me that feeling of "I will never question why I love this", which is not something all people can easily find.

I found some of the prices for students/rental gear a little odd, but with different DZ's that's just going to happen. Also I had my own gear, so it was just an in and out observation for me.

The one and only real complaint I had about this place was the port-a-potties. Not theirs specifically, I just really don't like them. Oh well I suppose.

All around, big thumbs up. Great people, great place, great times.

Blue Skies.

Great student gear, great rental gear, very fast climbing aircraft, nice grass landing area, the wind is almost always 5-10 steady, nice packing area.
I do not know what else a skydiver could want in a DZ.
This place has a very talented staff lead by great management.
I would recomend this place to everyone.
Great place to try a 1st skydive or to visit for an experienced skydiver.

Did my first jump today tandem @ Skydive San Diego. Over all it was an amazing experience and my instructor Sean was extremely knowledgeable. The aircraft got us up to altitude quickly and the view on the way down was awesome. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I'm thinking I'll go back in a few weeks and try the AFF.

Good times to be had here. The Manifest ladies were really nice - Sarah and Anna especially. Otter and Caravan were fine, nice covered, padded packing area.

Gorgeous view from altitude and under canopy.

Not too many fun jumpers overall, and a couple people didn't seem to care for the company of people trying to have a good time. Too cool for school I guess.

But definitely a good spot to jump at and most of the staff was great!

Too many meatheads

I showed up with the shock-value that this might be an awesome dz given the location and the scene. It was all ruined the minute those that greeted (and thats exaggerating) me. Not one person showed interest in asking where i'm from or who I am. All the jumpers there were a bunch of meatheads who apparently visited the gym a little too often and were a bit too cocky for only having 40+ jumps. This would be a great dropzone if they dropped the hubris and started making people feel welcome...I do not agree that there current management gives a damn about their staff and how they respond to paying customers....I was just a number while visiting...and some more coin for their purse...

Nice otters with new padded seats and new seatbelts, extremely well maintained aircraft. Padded packing, food on weekends, great scenery. Only downside is the porta potties. Everyone should come out here. Consisten wind every day

The place was awesome! As a first time diver, and a first timer to the west coast, I was happy with the entire experience. Yea, the facilities were a bit ruggid but the staff was soo chill and the jump was comfortable and smooth. I would def. go back and recommend anyone that is thinkin of going here...go!! Plus, the prices arent so bad. GET the video, worth the extra bejamin. if you're doing it, go for it all...your camera guy will probably be cooler than any of them...Andre, Sean (camera) and Dave get top kudos!!

A friendly, easy going place for your first jump

I enjoyed my first jump at Skydive San Diego. My insrtuctor was friendly and accomodating and made the whole process easy and less stressful. The training and preparation was quick and easy, and the view of the ocean and downtown San Diego was pretty neat. Although I enjoyed my time at Skydive San Diego, some people may be less accepting of the hasty preparation and facilities that weren't exactly neat and tidy (ex. there was no restrooms, only porta-potties; someone had spilt food on the ground and it was not picked up). That said, these things did not bother me. I had a great insturctor who provided me with a great first jump. So if you're looking for an informal, friendly place for your first jump, Skydive San Diego is great. I'm already planning on going back.

I did my first jump this past weekend and the place sure doesn't deserve more than 3 stars.

Some staffs are rude and impatient. while some of the intructors were funny and knowledgable. i don't feel they were doing a good job educating me and my friends about our first jump. for example. i was experiencing great ear discomfort during my jump due to the change in air pressure which i thought the instructor could've warned me and offered some useful tips to alleviate the pain before the jump instead of letting it almost ruin the entire experience.

Skydive San Diego is a great place. I started learning here last week and I am really impressed. I have done tandems at Lodi, Sky dance, and Skydive Atlanta and I have to say that Skydive San Diego is the best.
The Pros of this DZ are many.
The facilities are all clean and pretty new. They have a nice BBQ pit going every day that has decent food at a good price, $2 burgers and more as well as lots of cold drinks. The packing areas (there are 2) are covered and have new padding and plenty of room to spread out. The Gear store has a good selection of basic gear and if they don’t have what you need Bonnie or Justice will make sure you get it. Bonnie is a very cool person to talk to. She is happy to make recommendations and answer any questions that you have. The ladies at manifest are friendly and a get you where you need to be. This is a great place to start learning. The winds are easy, almost constantly out of the west and light. The weather is usually beautiful, sunny and cool. This area is so nice for jumping that the U.S. Navy, Marines and Air force send guys here to learn how to skydive! It’s not uncommon to see S.E.A.L.s training during the week most of the year.
The instructors are all very knowledgeable and professional. They really go out of the way to make you feel safe and ready for your jumps. Jen is the coolest, but all of the AFF instructors have good attitudes and make it pretty fun. Ground school was a good 6 hours of instruction that strongly enforced the basics and gave the knowledge to be safe on your first Jump.
The Aircraft is a brand new Twin Otter! No ratty, old, striped, aircraft here. You get up to altitude quickly and it holds close to 22 jumpers a load. The door has a slider to keep the wind out on the way out and good hand and foot holds on the outside of the fuselage. On the weekend they usually get well over 20 loads in the air!
The view! It is amazing! The DZ is about a mile from Otay Lake and in the foot hills near the border with Mexico. On good days you can even get a good view of the ocean. Of course the weather, again, is always great.
The Cons….
The only real con I have is not that big of a deal. The vibe is kind of busy sometimes. Since this DZ is so close to San Diego it gets a ton of jumpers and spectators on the weekend. Yet most of the fun jumpers are easy to talk to and fun to hang out with.
All in all it’s a great place. I am happy to call it my home DZ.
