I can't imagine a friendlier place to jump. Bob, Annie, and the entire staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome, even though I'm only A-licensed.
Great view of the Cascades mountains, too. Madras is just a short hop from Portland, and it's well worth the drive.
With a turbine plane, this would be skydiver heaven!

I love this dropzone! The staff is great. The facility is top notch. Once you get up in the Cessna you will experience the beauty of Central Oregon (310 days of sun per year) I did some of my early training at this dropzone. Bob and Mark helped me get over some of my problem areas in a proactive manner. I highly recomend this dropzone!
The winds can be tricky, but are not a problem.

All of the other Oregon DZ's are on the west side of the Cascades where it rains frequently. COSS is located on the high Central Oregon desert where there is sunshine and clear skies most of the time.
The airpost is HUGE! Wide open landing areas with very little air traffic.(Mostly the jump planes) Great for students.
The facilities are nice, the new hangar has indoor packing, showers, kitchen, and video area.
Bob and his staff are all very experienced averaging well over 2000 skydives each. Best saftey record you will find anywhere. Students get one on one personalized instruction and jumpers from all experience levels are made to feel welcome.
The views of the cascades are incredible, this is definetely the best kept secret in the North West. Great boogie and party every October.

If you're done with the regimentation, and hustle of the turbine scene. You owe it to yourself to come out to Madras. The weather is often better than on the coastal side, and there won't be anyone hollerin' at you with a bullhorn for the next load.
You'll find Coaching and Camaraderie, cold beer and more cold beer.

Pros:
Attiude, altitude, gratitude and...Whoa Dude!
Cons:
Bob has a cooler canopy than I do.
And there I was, steely eyed and never glancing. All my attention focused on the abyss and the fate that awaited me. My grip was solid, and my feet planted firm and square. I was ready...
Then, the pilot told me to turn loose of the nose gear, cuz he needed to move the plane away from the fuel pump.
Seriously, if you want to have a genuine good time, you should call Bob or Annie. Whether it's your first jump, or your 1000th, they know how it's done!
There are many places that will take your money, and give you a "ride"...But, jump here once, and you're a relative!

Central Oregon Sky Sports
Pros:
Otherworldly views, friendly people, great showers, cool cat
Cons:
none
The view above Madras is one of the most incredible I've seen. At 2800 ft AGL, center-pivot irrigated fields stretch like crop circles across a flat table, dropping off into the scorched desert canyons which stretch for miles to Mt. Hood and Jefferson. Carved into the canyon are Lake Billy Chinook and the Metolius River. This is all of Oregon in one jump! The jumping starts early here, out of 2 fast-climbing Cessnas, and ends early because of the desert winds. At this elevation many fly big conservative canopies, a very safe crowd. The core group of jumpers is friendly, welcoming and experienced. Sunrise is awesome and indoor showers boast unlimited hot water! Bring warm clothes and gear for winter. Whether you want to pull high and enjoy the views, or do some rockin' RW, there's something for everyone at this great DZ. Looking forward to getting back there! Thanks Bob, Annie, Kory, Linda, Mark, etc.

Central Oregon Sky Sports
Pros:
Bob, Mark, Annie, Linda, Cory, Dave, Byron, Travis, Andy....
Cons:
None
While arranging an outside event for a local recovery group, I chose CENTRAL OREGON SKY SPORTS (541) 420 0038 to host our event. Several of our members had never even been in an airplane before, much less jumped from one. As you can imagine there were a million questions I had to answer, and as many more I needed to ask.
I was no longer current in the sport when I arrived at the Madras Airport, but was made to feel like I had been jumping with them for years. I took a VERY well taught refresher course conducted by Mark, and made three one on one jumps with him before being released on the general public. I still enjoy an occasional jump when Mark is on the load, (when he isn't teaching) and I am sure that someday he will stop covering his head when he sees me approach the formation! (Self preservation is hard to overcome)
Annie has a quick wit, and isn't afraid to use it...bring your sense of humor, and make sure it's still in date. Bob and Mark are also prone to a little verbal sparring, and all the regular skydivers (if there is such a thing as a "regular" skydiver) are quick to get in on the action.
Wanna have a lot of fun, and not feel like an outsider? Call them up today.
EFS!
