These comments would be directed to someone who is considering making a tandem jump. (i.e. It'll probably make old pro's roll their eyes a lot, muttering "what a ROOKIE!"
A friend who is a tandem instructor at Skydive Houston wanted to introduce me to the joys of skydiving. Being a girl who won't even climb on the roof of my one-story house, due to fears of falling off and cracking my head open, I was understandably a bit apprehensive about the prospect. But, at the ripe old age of 50, with no dependents, I decided to suck it up and give it a shot.
Russ was coming to the Dallas area to attend the birthday bash of an old friend (also a skydiver, I think.) While he considered making the jump over the friend's pasture from one of their Cessna's, he decided he'd rather go here, as he is friends with the fearless leader of this particular DZ (I'm learning the lingo!)
It was a warm but windy day when we set off. Once we got there, Russ announced that he was glad we were jumping _there_ rather than over a pasture, because the land around the Caddo Mills Municipal Airport is VERY wide open with very little to create unpredictable air patterns close to the ground. (some skydiver speak about ripples, I think.)
Despite being convinced that I would have to close my eyes to exit the plane, I was excited about the jump. Russ had begun drilling me on do's and don'ts the night before, continued the drills enroute, and on-site, so I had a pretty good idea of what was going to transpire. (My brain was reeling with all the information...) We did one dry-run while the plane was still on the tarmac, then we climbed aboard with the pilot and two guys jumping solo. Once we had climbed up a considerable distance, Russ linked me up to his gear, then we waited for the magic moment. At 10,000 feet, the cry went out, goggles came down and the door opened. As soon as the other two guys were out, I began scooting over to the doorway. I was concentrating so hard on making sure I got to the appointed spot and was putting my feet on the jump platform at the appointed moment that I forgot all about the possibility of getting scared. (I suppose having another person strapped to your back and keeping you somewhat "paper-weighted" into the plane while you do so helps with the confidence...) In any event, the thing running through my head was "damn! my shoes are gonna blow off my feet!" Then the plane began to tilt, and we went tumbling out the door.
Wow! What an adrenaline rush! I wish the jump could have lasted longer than it did, because it was completely mesmerizing; the view, the weightless feeling, the sheer experience. But, of course, all good things have to come to an end, and so did this. Because of the wind conditions, Russ had intentionally planned to land far out from the DZ in a pasture. We wound up much closer than anticipated due to some wind-thing, but it was still a nice soft squishy landing in a muddy field. (the dirt is sandy loam, which brushes right off as soon as it dries, so there's not even evidence of your feat left.)
While the staff was helping Russ pack his rig, my dog and I had the opportunity to sit and visit with some of the other staff members and "regulars." I was quite taken by the sense of community that this group has. It is very much like a family, with friendly teasing, helpful suggestions, and such. (My dog, Sasha, ate up all the attention lavished on her. Spoiled dog.)
So, two thumbs up from me. For a good time, call Larry and his gang...

I did my first jump a long time ago at this DZ and came back years later when wanted to get into the sport. The people are great, no cliques, no pressure, just jumping for the fun of it, no matter who you are. No matter if you are a student, first timer, or an experienced jumper this place rocks. I like a turbine DZ, but with two full time 182's you can get lots of jumps in, with a laid back atmosphere.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Amazing, incredible, indescribable!
Staff and jumpers were very friendly, DZ has a great vibe. The schedule for the day was full and weather held us up for a while, so it turned into a long wait but was well worth it. Instructors calmed my fears and I felt safe and comfortable making my 1st jump.
Highly recommended!

I started jumping a long time ago, and this DZ takes me back to those times...
It's a friendly 182 dropzone, with mostly the same folks week in and week out, but they're good folks. They will welcome you, and jump with you, and you'll have fun.
I have a turbine DZ a bit further from me, that I frequent also (and like also!), but if I'm just looking for a low key day of fun skydiving with a group of people who are there just for the love of the sport, I can go to Caddo too...

When I decided to resume jumping again. I was recommended to try this place. The people were very friendly and welcoming. The pace isn't rushed. The only drawback is the operating days, currently it is only open on Sat. I was told that will change soon. They also bring in an extra 182 sometimes. Worth the trip for the people and attitude. This place made me remember why I love skydiving.
